Radcliffe Civic Suite is a multi-purpose venue which has hosted a variety of events and activities to suit all ages and interests. It is located in the centre of Radcliffe, Thomas Street, near St Thomas’ Church.
This superb venue is set to be bulldozed to make way for Housing as the Council unveil 40 houses are set to be built on the plot, to which bosses secured a 1 Million pound grant, which are being built in partnership with Great Places Housing Group.
The venue is due to close its doors on the 17th April.
All bookings which have been previously booked have been honoured and moved to a new location at no extra cost.
We have been told there are plans to build a new venue on the site where the old Radcliffe Swimming Pool and Sports centre currently stands on Green Street, which is also set to be demolished to make way for the new entertainment and leisure venue in the near future.
Radcliffe Swimming baths on Green Street shut in 2013 due to storm damage. A temporary Swimming pool was opened on the site of Radcliffe Riverside High School on Spring Lane in May at the cost of £1.1M.
The venue allowed us to walk around and take some photos before they shut their doors.
For me this was a very emotional thing, growing up in the area, coming here for Roller Derby’s, Christmas Pantos and the fabulous SOS Festival which Radcliffe Civic has been home to for the last 8 years, this year having to relocate to Prestwich Longfield Suite.
This venue has staged some terrific Rock & Metal acts from the likes of original ACDC vocalist Dave Evans, to the likes of Ex Iron Maiden frontman Blaze Bayley, Black Spiders, Evil Scarecrow,Absolva the list goes on and on.
Here are some shots we took as we were allowed to take a trip down memory lane and have one last look around the venue.
