Gig Review By Vicky Milne

Tonight, the Waterfront paid host to ‘Legends Award’ winning and one of the most highly regarded female metal singers in the world, Doro Pesch. Embarking on a 19 date tour, kicking off in Norwich, she and her band brought along special guests Archer .

With their classic but heavy sound, Archer stormed the stage into ‘Hurl The Cross’, ‘Hell In a Handbag’ and ‘Kills Caster’, the slowly growing crowd showed their appreciation with head bobs and the occasional cheer, going on to ‘Culling the Weak’ and ‘The Day That Never Came’, Dylan Rose (vox/guitar), David De Silva (Bass) and Keyhan Moini (drums) delivered their hard rock with the Bay Area thrash influenced sound swiftly and effectively to the eager audience. Rounding up their great set with ‘Dawn of Dilution’, these guys made a very good job of what seemed like a tough opener and tough crowd to please.

Now it was time for the main event, after what seemed like an age, the lights went down and one by one the band appeared on the stage, exploding into ‘I Rule The Ruins’, on to the stage ran Doro to the sound of a huge roar of appreciation and excitement from the Doro hungry crowd. With her vocals soaring across the room, they smashed through ‘Revenge’, ‘Burning The Witch’, ‘Fight For Rock’ and ‘Night of The Warlock’ it was plain to see that the audience were excited by the prospect of a full two hour set from this living legend. The heavy heavy rock pounding away behind her, Doro captivated the the crowd sharing the microphone for chants and encouraging them to sing and chant along to each song especially with ‘Raise Your Fist’ before slowing it down to ‘Without You’. The soundtrack to this performance was 12285592_10153105070696104_1039687038_nprovided by Johnny Dee (drums) and Nick Douglas (Bass) providing the hard rocking rhythm, with the classic riffs and shreds from Luca Princiotta (guitar) and Bas Maas (guitar), taking us through the long 32 year history of Doro’s career. After some more tracks, the audience were also treated to a drum solo from Johnny Dee, before pounding into ‘Evil’, ‘We Are The Metalheads’, ‘Burn It Up’ finishing up this epic set with ‘All We Are’. As per most well experienced bands, the lights went down, but the show certainly wasn’t over. An encore began with another eight fan favourites, including ‘Fur Immer’, ‘Bad Blood’ ending off the night with ‘Hellbound’. This was an excellent show from a band and performer that clearly has the love and spirit burning bright and certainly isn’t going to fade any time soon. The audience were entranced for the entire show. Judging by that performance, it’s plainly clear to see why Doro is held in such high regard in the music world as she is. An incredible show.
