‘Skindred’ live review at Hard Rock Hell 2013

When the Star Wars Imperial March belted out in the main arena, you had an inkling that something great was about to happen. The opening song ’Ninja’ was a statement of intent that Skindred weren’t here to take any prisoners, Benji’s infectious energy instantly transferring to all present.

Benji wasn’t prepared to let anybody catch their breath, interacting with the crowd and share any displeasure at a lack of movement. This was a band who wanted as much back from the crowd as they gave themselves.

It was a truly impressive set with the occasional wardrobe change from Benji, this just added to the sense of occasion that was built upon a great musical base, including ‘Babylon’, ‘Nobody’ and ‘Kill the Power’. Even the covers were a perfect mix that reflects Skindreds signature tone ‘Sad But True – Metallica’ and ‘Breath – Prodigy’.

Even right at the end the crowd were kept captivated and involved when they were made to participate in the ‘Newport Helicopter’ during the encore ‘Warning’.

This is a band that are prepared to give as much time and energy as they received from their fan base.
