Top 5 Upcoming Music Festivals
By Alex Norwood
Summer is the best time for big outdoor festivals and nothing says ‘good time’ like a big rock festival to enjoy with your friends. And there are plenty of venues to choose from in Europe in terms of rock festivals. Read further to check-out a list of five upcoming music festivals you shouldn’t miss.
Rock en Seine is a rock festival that takes at the Chateau de Saint-Cloud’s park near Paris for a period of three days. The name of the festival comes from the main river that crosses the French capital and also the way scene is pronounced in French.
During the three days of the festival, you will be able to listen to artists like The xx, PJ Harvey and Flume and many others. The genres of the festival vary from rock, hip-hop, pop-rock and even reggae. So be quick and find a cheap flight because you now know where you need to be between 25 and 27 August.
The Reading / Leeds Festival is at its 55th edition this year and it’s already a local tradition more than a festival. With diverse genres of music like rock, punk, pop-rock, indie and more recently electronic music the Reading/Leeds Festival offer a truly unique experience to those that attend.
This year the headliners are Muse, Kasabian, Eminem, Korn and hundreds of other artists distributed on 8 stages. The only bad thing is that it also takes place between 25 and 27 August so you must choose between Reading Festival or Rock en Seine.
With headliners such as Foo Fighters, The xx, Mumford & Sons or Hardwell, Lollapalooza returns to Berlin between 9 and 10 of September. The lineup is completed by artists like Beatsteaks, Marteria or Annenmaykantereit and you’ll surely have a hot summer by attending this German festival.
Wacken Open Air is a summer festival of heavy metal which started in 1990 as a local event for German bands. It will take place between the 3rd of August and 5th of August near Hamburg. Headliners include Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, Megadeth, Volbeat and Status Quo. It is clearly one of those festivals that you need to attend to at least once in your lifetime
The rock festival that takes place at Fuji is the one in Naeba Skr Resort. It’s a three-day festival that hosts over 200 international musicians as well as local bands. Judging by both the bands attending and the participants, it is the biggest outdoor music event in Japan. This year’s edition is scheduled to take place between 27 and 30 July and some of the headliners are Gorillaz, The xx, Rag’N’Bone Man, BJÖRK and Lorde. Even though it may seem odd that this even made this list, in 2005 more than 100000 people attended and since it’s the only major event in Japan, it makes total sense.
Indeed, most of the major rock festivals already took place but that doesn’t mean that the end of the summer is not packed with action all across the world. As you can see above, each and every one of these festivals is a must. So call your friends, pack your backs and go rock the summer!
