BIONKILL
“They Must Die”
Album Review by Iron Mathew

9.5/10

BioNKill are a thrash metal band from Portugal formed in 2023, releasing their debut album ‘They Must Die’ in 2025.

Founded by the duo of Rui Vieira (vocals) and Jose “Melkor” Marreiros (guitars, bass, drums), BioNKill are a new thrash metal force to be reckoned with – the Portuguese band taking on board everything Kreator, Sepultura and Slayer gave the world, and adding the bands own rough and rugged blend of brutality!

‘They Must Die’ flies by in under thirty blistering minutes, each and every one of the nine songs on offer fast paced blasts of ferocity – no-one and nobody is safe from the bands unfiltered, and unapologetic barrage of savage thrash! And storming outta the blocks at tremendous speed, ‘Murder Agenda’ is brutal, mercilessly bludgeoning everyone with raw power! The band are lethal here, devastating everything in front of them with an all conquering rampage of ruthless thrash – stunning may be understating the impact of the albums opening salvo! Everyone in the world surely felt the earth tremble as BioNKill unleashed their ferocity – a tremble which becomes a shudder as ‘Propaganda (How To Kill The Truth)’ roars louder than ‘Murder Agenda’! Yes readers – louder! The Portuguese duo are fierce and fiery, the opening brace a double delight straight off the top shelf, the head bang ability too is off the fucking charts! And making it a terrific threesome, ‘Mass Formation’ marches in with a thunder, fire and brimstone fuelled mid tempo thunder-stomp, BioNKill pressing the pedal firmly to the metal after a minute or so to resume the blistering speed of the two previous songs!

The aggressive nature of the album so far has been in your face more than you own fucking eyes are, the band both menacing and frightening in equal measures, ‘Rise Of Tyranny (One World Government)’ opening with a mellower attitude than everything else heard up to this point – BioNKill slowly and steadily building a fierce crescendo of anticipation as the band hit the accelerator hard after two minutes to hurtle off at high velocity! ‘Rise Of Tyranny (One World Government)’ is a glorious pace changing tempo changing torrent of thrash that effortlessly changes stride in the blink of an eye – ‘Codex Refuse’ a one minute rip-roaring burst of electrified energy that roars by at phenomenal speed! And keeping the brutality level at a deafening high, ‘Digital Concentration Camps’ marches into sight to shudder the ground with immense force, every building within sonic range instantly crumbling into ruins – the devastation left behind by the band turning everywhere into an uninhabitable desolate wasteland!

‘We Are Ready’ is another minute long burst of energy, BioNKill more abrasive, rougher and tougher than ever before – the speed too, for ‘We Are Ready’ surges through the sound barrier with plenty to spare! ‘The Great Awakening’ returns the mellower feel heard earlier – but not for long, the band storming into life after just ten seconds – ‘The Great Awakening’ turning out to be a two and a half minute instrumental that progresses to get heavier and heavier until finally breaking out into a frantic sprint! And rounding off ‘They Must Die’ at the fastest pace on the album, ‘Troops Of Resistance’ is a high velocity thrash metal onslaught fuelled by aggression and ferocity with immense head bang ability! Which just about sums up perfectly BioNKill’s brand of thrash metal music.

Overall, a savage barrage of brutal thrash delivered at speed with incredible levels of aggression, menace and head bang ability.
