DEADLINE Single Review: “My Sweet Apocalypse”

DEADLINE
“My Sweet Apocalypse”
Single Review by Iron Mathew

9/10

Deadline are a heavy metal band from South Africa formed in 2014 releasing their debut album ‘Black Wolf City’ in 2017, and sophomore album ‘Cathedral Point’ in 2020. The bands third album ‘Vitriol Inc’ – due for release in May – has been preceded by three singles – ‘Cult Of Prometheus’, ‘Monuments’, and ‘My Sweet Apocalypse’…

…featuring a difference in tone and mood from the two previous singles! Both ‘Cult Of Prometheus’ and ‘Monuments’ were galloping thunderstorms of head bang ability – ‘My Sweet Apocalypse’ is a more majestic swagger of melodic heavy metal. Think the longer epics of Iron Maiden, and ‘One’ or ‘The Unforgiven’ trilogy by Metallica – that’s the feel Deadline have gone for here.

Across all three singles, you can hear the bands penchant for blending together the sounds of thrash and traditional heavy metal, delivering a sound that’s mildly aggressive yet melodic. I don’t know how many songs will appear on Deadline’s new album – but from the triple released so far, it’s a fair bet the others are gonna be just as infectious and head bang-able too!

So mark the month of May in your diaries, on your calendars, and as a reminder on your phones – as the month when South African heavy metallers Deadline release their new album ‘Vitriol Inc’.

Overall, a majestic mid tempo, mid paced melodic swagger of traditional heavy metal.
