EVERYDAY HEROES Album Review: “A Tale Of Sin & Sorrow”

EVERYDAY HEROES
“A TALE OF SIN & SORROW”
Album Review by Will Spowage

10/10

Now in their twenties EVERYDAY HEROES grew up together in another picturesque Welsh Valley. Ages ranging from 23 to 29. their drummer learnt some skills from ‘Bullet From My Valentine’ drummer Michael Thomas – “In starting a band you have to be in it for the love”.

Recorded and produced at Boneyard Recording Studio and hailing from the valley, EVERYDAY HEROES are a Welsh hard rock band delivering their self-titled introduction in 2016 and their first album ‘The Other Side Of Nowhere’ in 2017. Unlikely to be dogged by the virus, on the 2nd of July 2021 the band are set to appear at SOS Festival XIII.

If described as a shaft of metal, 2020’s ‘A TALE OF SIN AND SORROW’ album with their twelve track playlist would be thick, uphill and spiralling. For even the tasteless, a safe bet for strange projects involving engines and mud pies. Certainly something for the pub. I can picture myself changing my usual for the beer bottle and exchanging roll ups for cigarettes for good. The industrial/native American culture clash echoes a controlling narrative. To the clear camaraderie amongst the musicians and amidst the music, a spiny aurora sets the mood. As if channelling the Beast from the East wasn’t enough, you feel each track hit you and drum your ribs. This album is a troubled and tormented masterpiece overlooking a dangerous landscape.

The best part about this album is that it is a highly menacing assault on the populous. For somebody just warming up to metal I have an understanding that this album is for somebody who has ‘got it going on’: – A non-smoker for example. It serves a purpose and that purpose is the hollowing out of trees to brew alcoholic spirits. This band is a very powerful cider. As somebody higher on the autism scale than Lady Madonna; I perceive that EVERYDAY HEROES should focus on fostering their creative writing nil of the classic song writing procedure. They naturally can-can carry. Hold my beer, have mercy and forgive, please!

Lacking the energy-drink type sting that commercial pop usually delivers, I find myself in new grounds with EVERYDAY HEORES. They remind me of Spanish weather and driving alone in the pitch black; following distinct, distant lights with a rabid want for human contact. It’s all good. These guys will prosper in manifold ways. If you thought I was banging my own drum then start over at track one (Texas Red) where a demanding solo flies the flag of our Wales brethren silhouetted against an incoming tsunami of blood. Praise the Lord. ‘Without a Throne’ goes on to pull on the heartstrings so much I’d stick a Parental Caution Explicit Lyrics sticker on it and never drink again.
