Interview By Sommer Snapx

In Search Of Sun are a 5 piece band from London UK.

As of the 7th June 2017 the band signed a deal with Spinefarm Records, part of the Universal Music Group family!!

The band said

“To say we are even more excited about the future of this band, is a huge understatement. We are truly honoured to be part of such a legendary roster of bands and having an amazing team of people sharing in our vision”.

“Stay tuned for details on Singles and Album release date as well as tour news and yes, to our friends and family who helped us with our Kick starter and have been patiently waiting for this – you will be getting this album before anyone else.”.

We caught up with the band for a brief chat to see what they had been up to, here is what the guys had to say…

Hi guys thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit and have a chat with us today!

No problem, thanks for stopping by to see us!

You guys recently played at the Underworld in Camden on 12th May, how did that go?

Really well! We opened for Disturbed and Machine Head tribute bands “Machine Head UK” & “Down With The Sickness” who were both great! The crowd was awesome too!

Any bands that played there that you could recommend for us to go and check out?

A band called “The Sun Never Set” opened that night who were tight as hell, you should definitely check them out.

Your playing the almighty Amplified Music Festival on the 23rd July, what have you guys got lined up for this?

We’ve been looking forward to this one for a very long time, it’s gonna be an amazing three days worth of killer music for sure! We’re working on a set for this, which will be particularly special because we’ll be incorporating some new songs from our upcoming album “Virgin Funk Mother” into it. We also recently signed to Spinefarm Records, which means that news on singles, tours and most importantly the album release date will be coming soon.

With so many great bands playing this event is there anyone in particular you’re looking forward to seeing play?

I think for nostalgia purposes, Puddle Of Mudd is definitely on the list. Some other must sees are Exist Immortal, SHVPES, The Amorettes, Courtesans & As Lions.

Have you got anything special lined up for Facebarmageddon in December, any guest appearances?

We’ve played The Facebar a few times over the years so for this one we will be changing things up, and who knows, maybe a cheeky little guest appearance could be on the cards. You’ll have to come and find out!

Do you think online presence is important for fans to be able to keep up to date with what the band is doing?

Definitely. It’s imperative for bands to be active on all social media platforms and engaging with their followers. Most of us use social media and one of the most effective ways to inform people about shows and releases is through these platforms now. You can never have enough video content! Combine that with going to local shows, seeing other bands and building proper relationships with people.

Before an event how long does the band usually practice for in order to rehearse a set, do you have specific days/times for band practice?

As a band we get together every Monday and Thursday evening for three hours at a time and loop sets. We are suckers for tightness and can’t deal with parts of songs being weaker than others, so there’s a lot of stopping and repeating until it’s played perfectly! That schedule is ongoing. In terms of show prep, we’ll hit the studio a third time that week and break the set down to make sure all the stops, fills and samples between songs are how we want them, as well as ensuring the whole thing is timed to the set length we’ve been given for the show. On non rehearsal days we are all usually practicing individually or getting together to write new material.

How do you go about balancing your personal life/obligations with the band?

Trial and error, haha! Unfortunately there is no easy way to be in a constantly active band and pay the bills, but we wouldn’t change this for the world, so we do what we have to do.

What are your most fond music memories from childhood?

Adam:

One would be coming home from school everyday and getting my mum to put “The Final Countdown” on. I still love that tune so much. I think the most fond memory though would have to be my first band with my two best friends when we were in high school. We totally sucked, but we had the greatest time playing horribly written metal songs to all our friends on the weekends!

Sean:

My mum blasting that Simply Red & Genesis on the way to school in the morning…(getting on that Hucknall flex at an early age), or being licked at 14 and hearing “The Rain Song” by Zeppelin for the first time. Not a care in the world, and still my favourite song ever to this day.

Faz:

From early childhood would be the theme music from pink panther. I used to love the cartoon and sneak around the house humming the tune.

Dave:

Going to see other bands with my friends and talking about one day being up there doing it ourselves!

Rory:

When I formed my first band and played music for the first time. Probably a really bad rendition of Wild Thing.

What was the first record/cassette you went out and bought yourself and has this had an influence on the music you create today?

Adam:

“Vulgar Display Of Power”. Pantera still are and always will be my favourite band in the entire world and putting that record on for the first time when I was about 12 years old was just magic. I literally realised then and there what I wanted to do with my life.

Faz:

The first cassette tape I bought was best of the beast. I used to bunk off food technology with Jesse (ex Forte) and we’d sit out in the corridor listening to it with an earphone each.

Rory:

First influential album was Led Zeppelin II. It definitely played a huge part in influencing me to take my playing to the next level.

Sean:

The first record I ever bought myself was Oasis “What’s the story, Morning Glory?” back in 1996, with a little bit of pocket money. I pretty much took a massive jump into the musical aether after that, so I guess it’s partly responsible for turning me into the monster I am today.

Dave:

It was The Offspring – Americana. I had that album in one hand and Will Smith’s “Getting Jiggy With It” in the other. I chose Americana and it changed my life. It got me into pop punk, then heavier music followed. It was my gateway music drug to everything else that followed.

Now you guys are signed to Spinefarm can we expect an album anytime soon?

Stay tuned for details on Singles and Album release date as well as tour news!

Ooo sounds interesting, i will!

Before we leave you guys to continue with your day is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

Yes we are eternally grateful for you guys coming out to our shows, buying our music, following what we do on social media.

Keep on rocking and we’ll catch you at a show! Come by and say hi and hang out with the band!

Cheers guys for your time, it was great catching up with you!

Thank you!
