IRON CURTAIN
“Metal Gladiator”
E.P. Review by Iron Mathew
9/10

Iron Curtain are a heavy metal band from Spain formed in 2007, releasing four albums to date – ‘Road To Hell’ (2012), ‘Jaguar Spirit’ (2013), ‘Guilty As Charged’ (2016), ‘Danger Zone’ (2019) – and three E.P.’s – ‘Black Fist’ (2012), ‘Outlaw’ (2015), and ‘Metal Gladiator’, released in 2023…
…and as with every other Iron Curtain release, the artwork is so metal looking there’s absolutely no mistaking what style of music is contained within – heavy “fucking” metal! And in the vein of such legendary bands as Exciter, Grave Digger, and Razor. The new release is seven songs of old and new – four new and three old – with the new songs the first four up! ‘Crossing The Acheron’ is an atmospheric one minute anticipation fuelled crescendo building intro – leading to the explosive ‘Burn In Hell’. And a fast and furious pace that would light up any thrash metal album – but this is a heavy metal record, with Iron Curtain hitting harder than ever before! And I have to say as well, there’s a little touch of the raucous punk rock ‘n’ roll all out metal style of the legendary Motorhead.
‘Rattlesnake’ – which will feature on the bands forthcoming as yet un-titled fifth album – is much faster paced, defying speed limits and banging hard the heads of every single mosher around the world. The band are simply oozing intensity in droves, the E.P. moving on with yet another upsurge in pace – the title song ‘Metal Gladiator’ hitting maximum velocity as it hurtles across the land. And if these four new songs are an indication of what to expect on the bands new album – then I predict a riot! For they’re fucking terrific!
The final three songs are all lifted from the bands 2019 album ‘Danger Zone’, and feature a number of lead guitar guests – ‘Rough Riders’ features Noboru Jeru Sakuma (Gorgon, Abigail, Metalucifer), ‘Stormbound’ features Blumi (Metal Inquisitor, Midnight Rider), and ‘The Running Man’ features Harry Granroth (RAM). All three songs are blistering speed fests, one hundred percent head bang-able, showing just how great an outfit Iron Curtain are. Just remember though – there is a new album coming, so keep your eyes and ears open for it!
Overall, a thunderous and fast paced twenty two minutes of terrific heavy metal from a band on top form.
