“Fearless
Album Review by Iron Mathew
9.5/10
Knightsune are a heavy metal band from Spain formed in 2017 releasing the bands self titled album in 2021, and sophomore album ‘Fearless’ in 2024…
…the band blending a multitude of metal styles into their root heavy metal sound – styles such as groove, prog and even a little thrash find their way into the bands sonic array! The band line-up consists of vocalist Victor Alcala, guitarists Victor V. Gairhald and Diego Alastruey, bass player Carlos Vicente, and drummer Ruben Castrillo – ‘Fearless’ also featuring a number of guest singers, Memphis Jimenez, Elisa C. Martin (Hamka), and Herbie Langhans (Radiant, Firewind, Sonic Haven, Steel Rhino, ex Sinbreed). The ten songs on ‘Fearless’ clock in at a mighty one hour run time – the title song ‘Fearless’ storming in with immense heaviness to wake every one up! The band are in full flight here, pounding the ground with pace, power and purpose to deliver an opening salvo that’s gonna turn heads and make every listener sit up and take notice of the Spanish band! And at over seven minutes in length there’s plenty to notice about ‘Fearless’ (the song), Knightsune launching their album in sparkling style!
There’s a certain elegance surrounding ‘Fearless’s (the album) opening gambit, the elegance you normally get with a storytelling kinda album, every song keeping you hooked on the bands every move – the band moving to a faster pace courtesy of the “foot on the monitor” metaller ‘A Sky Full Of Ghosts’. The level of head bang ability has shot through the roof, Knighsune providing every head banger around the world with a perfect opportunity to stretch neck muscles and vigorously rock their heads back and forth. The opening brace has breezed across the land to grab the attentions of everyone, ‘Twilight Of The Heroes’ grabbing them even tighter as the band stride into the epic and glory genres of heavy metal. The mellow build-up here is tension fuelled, the band roaring forward after a minute or so to resume the foot on the monitor, highly head bang-able heavy metal heard on the previous song. The infectious level too across the albums first three songs has been top shelf stuff, Knightsune wasting no time in thundering on with the hardest hitting song heard so far – ‘Under One Sound’ pounding the ground harder than a jack hammer smashing through concrete! And I haven’t even mentioned the intensity of ‘Fearless’ (the album) yet, the first four songs taking me to heavy metal heaven – a place where every listener, fan and follower are going too, the intensity level an all consuming one that’s gonna get you, no matter how far!
And featuring the sultry, soaring vocals of guest singer Memphis Jimenez, ‘The Pain I Leave’ enters hymn-like balladry, every ounce of the albums phenomenal energy reined in to leave a tension filled atmosphere that could burst at any time! But it doesn’t, the band doing a terrific job of holding it all in, listeners everywhere holding lighters aloft and swaying from side to side. And from one guest singer to another, Elisa C. Martin features on the high velocity ‘Forever’, the album displaying an incredible turn of speed with the head bang ability higher than ever before! This is one song that all the mosh pits are gonna love, every metalhead rocking their head back and forth at neck breaking speed in order to keep pace with the band – good luck with that then! The iconic metal gallop takes front and centre as ‘Pistols At Dawn’ thunders into sight featuring a mighty mid tempo march, Knightsune shuddering the ground with immense force – so best to stay outta the bands way or else get totally flattened by the Spanish metal machine! An unforgiving metal machine that rolls on relentlessly with ‘Purple & Green’.
And the first inkling of a thrash metal influence, ‘Purple & Green’ featuring a more abrasive sound than any other song heard so far, yet still retains the bands incredible infectious nature! Knightsune straddle multiple genres here to attract a very wide audience, an audience that’s packed with metallers, thrashers and just a few rockers too! Yes readers, the bands music is that far reaching, ‘Fearless’ (the album) rolling on with the longest song on offer, ‘The Island’ clocking in at nearly nine minutes in length! And what a nine minutes too – the band throwing everything in their vast arsenal at listeners! From a tension fuelled mid tempo foot stomp to an anthemic swagger and all out pace, ‘The Island’ has it all! And bringing the album to a close, ‘Not Over’ features the vocal talents of singer Herbie Langhans, ‘Fearless’ (the album) displaying more pace, power and purpose than ever before – the final hurrah providing the head bangers of the world one more opportunity to completely wreck their necks for good! Well, just for the moment anyway!
Overall, a fast paced and highly infectious heavy metal rampage, ‘Fearless’ spans multiple genres to attractive a very wide audience.
