MASS DISORDER
“Hupokrisis”
E.P. Review by Iron Mathew
8/10
Mass Disorder are a thrash metal band from Portugal founded in 2013, who’ve to date released one album – ‘Conflagration’ (2018), and two E.P.’s – ‘The Way To Our End’ (2014) and ‘Hupokrisis’ (2024).
Formed by guitarist Nelson Carmo, Mass Disorder has suffered numerous line-up changes across the bands decade long career, the current line-up featuring bass player Andre Gomes, drummer Pedro Santana, guitarist Valter Aguiar, and vocalist Sandro Martins alongside founder Carmo – ‘Hupokrisis’ E.P. consisting of four highly aggressive and abrasive songs! The band are bruising across an eighteen minute run time, the new singer howling and scowling with venomous intent as Mass Disorder rip through space and time to deliver immense devastation to a worldwide audience – an audience that’s had wait six years for new music from the Portuguese thrashers!
Opening the E.P. ‘Sem Ossos’ sees, or rather hears the band roar off at high velocity, the bands bruising and immensely abrasive style of thrash metal piercing the airways, every listener, fan, follower, mosher, metaller and thrasher around the world vigorously banging their heads right from the off! A blistering opener from the Portuguese band, the pace of the E.P. doubling for ‘Burning Seasons’, Mass Disorder ignoring and breaking speed limits to incur the wrath of the local policia!
A simply devastating and speedy brace to shudder the ground, wobble walls and shake buildings, the band remain in top gear for ‘Prophets Of Hypocrisy’, the levels of menace and aggression shooting right through the fucking roof! Don’t get me wrong, menace and aggression have been sky high since the E.P. began, it’s just that ‘Prophets Of Hypocrisy’ has lots more – the fourth and final song ‘The Blessing’ is the slowest song on offer! And I use the term “slowest” in the loosest possible sense you can imagine, for what ‘The Blessing’ lacks in pace it sure as hell makes up for with an earth shattering thunder stomp, Mass Disorder changing through the gears after two minutes to resume the scorching speed of earlier.
Overall, foot to the floor thrash metal fuelled by ferocity, ‘Hupokrisis’ E.P. is aggressive, menacing and bruising.
