NASTY SAVAGE
“Jeopardy Room”
Album Review by Iron Mathew

9/10

Nasty Savage are a thrash metal band from the USA founded in 1983 by vocalist “Nasty” Ronnie Galletti, the band prolific during the mid-eighties releasing three albums in the space of just four years – ‘Nasty Savage’ (1985), ‘Indulgence’ (1987) and ‘Penetration Point’ (1989) – Nasty Savage breaking up soon after. The band have reformed a few times since, resulting in the bands fourth album ‘Psycho Pyscho’ (2004), and fifth album ‘Jeopardy Room’…

…emerging in 2024 featuring founder “Nasty” with drummer Jim Coker, guitarists Pete Sykes and Dave Orman, and bass player Kyle Sokol – the new album consisting of ten songs across forty four savage minutes! The band are aggressive, menacing, and terrifying all at the same time, delivering an uncompromising blend of thrash, death and just a little black metal too – ‘Jeopardy Room’ lurching forth with the one minute effects laden and eerie instrumental ‘Invocations’, then all hell breaks fucking loose as the title song ‘Jeopardy Room’ hurtles into sight at a hundred and sixty kilometres an hour, Nasty Savage combining brutality with aggression and a hearty dose of menace just for good measure! The searing pace is maniacal, sending the worlds mosh pits into overdrive with every metalhead banging their head hard – very hard!

And heavying things up a bit, the band batter everyone senseless with the brutal ‘Brain Washer’, a gear changing tempo changing adrenaline pumping rampage of all out head bang ability! The variation here is wide, very wide, wider than the Grand Canyon even – which for all you fact fans is eighteen miles wide at its widest point! What a thunderous opening double, the band making it a treble with the ground shuddering foot stomper ‘Southern Fried Homicide’ – but only after a mellow, menacing and eerie first minute! Nasty Savage are hitting very hard here to pulverise everyone with an all consuming punchy crunch, the mid tempo mid paced barrage of brutality sending shockwaves all around the world! ‘Witches Sabbath’ features two members of the legendary American death metal band Obituary – namely the Tardy brothers, drummer Donald and vocalist John – and is a scathing rampage of thrash come death metal! The levels of menace and aggression are sky fucking high here, ‘Witches Sabbath’ maintaining the albums recent mid paced thunder, every mosh pit in the world forming circles of death as both moshers and head bangers go fucking mental!

Mental in the good sense though, there’s definitely no going loco and losing one’s shit here, ‘Jeopardy Room’ (the album) marching on with a little knuckle dragging doom metal among the thunder, fire and brimstone fuelled ‘Schizoid Platform’. Featuring changes of gear and tempo aplenty, ‘Schizoid Platform’ is the most varied song heard so far, the band zig-zagging their way through a multitude of genres. And the longer the album runs, it appears that Nasty Savage just love to scare and frighten listeners with short eerie intro’s, ‘Aztec Elegance’ displaying the eeriest of them all, progressing to become an unforgiving savage barrage of in your face thrash! So in your face in fact, that some listeners may take a step back from the intimidating attitude pouring outta the album right now, Nasty Savage maintaining an incredibly high level of menace! ‘Jeopardy Room’ (the album) hits the accelerator hard, ‘Operation Annihilate’ powering forth at blistering speed to become the fastest song heard so far, every head banger around the world violently rocking their heads back and forth in the hope of keeping up with the band!

Menace and aggression is at the forefront of everything Nasty Savage do, each and every song on offer pulsating with shit tonnes of both, none more so than on ‘Blood Syndicate’ – a much more in your face attitude beginning to pour out of ‘Jeopardy Room’ (the album) the longer it runs! And battering listeners more viciously than ever, ‘The 6th Finger’ is a mighty thrash metal thunderstorm with terrifying lightning strikes to put the fear of God into everyone on the planet! And I mean everyone, ‘The 6th Finger’s gonna get all of you no matter how far away – the four and a half minute instrumental showing tremendous charisma by holding your attention for its entire duration! And if I’m brutally honest here for a moment, not all instrumentals do (hold my attention) – ‘The 6th Finger’ is one that definitely does, seamlessly morphing into the final song ‘Sainted Devil’. And another intense barrage of savagery to rock the head of every listener, fan and follower one last time. What a relentless and fairly exhausting ride of raucous thrash from the legendary American thrashers.

Overall, a savage rollercoaster of roaring thrash metal, twisting and turning across a myriad of genres including death and black metal.
