SCULFORGE
“Cosmic Crusade Chronicles”
Album Review by Iron Mathew
10/10

Sculforge are a power metal band from Germany formed in 2020, releasing the bands debut album ‘Intergalactic Battle Tunes’ in 2023, and sophomore album ‘Cosmic Crusade Chronicles’ in 2025.
Two years ago, the band left a worldwide audience stunned by their jaw dropping seventy minute long, narration infused storytelling debut album – the follow-up a more compact affair at just forty five minutes and eleven songs! The bands incredibly fast paced, intense brand of power metal is still very much in force, ‘Cosmic Crusade Chronicles’ (or to give the album its full title ‘Cosmic Crusade Chronicles…Stories From The… Err… Nevermind!’) exploding into life at great speed with ‘Great Day To Kill’ – the heads of everyone instantly turning in the direction of Germany to see just where in the fucking world the huge burst of energy is coming from! From a band on fucking fire that’s where – ‘Great Day To Kill’ rivalling anything the band delivered two years ago, ‘Make Space Great Again’ maintaining the albums blistering barrage of supersonic speed! Sculforge are rampant, hurtling across the land with intense pace and power, knocking everything and everyone outta the way with an intense gung-ho attitude!
An opening brace to leave every listener open-mouthed in amazement, ‘Cosmic Crusade Chronicles’ roars on with ‘The Journey’, the band once again sizzling with a level of pace, power and drive to knock “kings of extreme speed metal” DragonForce outta their stride! Sculforge are sending the British metallers a challenge – one that I’m sure DragonForce will rise up to accept, all the oomph of the album up to this point disappearing quicker than a boner after ejaculation! ‘Edge Of The Universe’ reins in every ounce of power on show so far, the band striding into the realm of hymn-like balladry with this one, every single listener around the world raising lighters high in the air and swaying gently from side to side – ‘We Are The Darkness’ immediately returning the bands emphatic style of power metal to the fore! And at the fastest pace seen since the album began, Sculforge faster than the speed of fucking light here, ‘We Are The Darkness’ hurtling across the land to leave only desolation in its wake!
Every song on offer is between four and five minutes in length, the band giving no-one a single breather, Sculforge keeping the hammer well and truly down with ‘Dark Alliance’ – the bands thunder, fire and brimstone fuelled rampage burning hotter than ever! Hotter even than the Sun, which at 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit on its surface is fucking hot – gonna need an incredibly high sun-protection-factor sunscreen there I reckon! And as the album surges on, there’s no sign of a breather coming anytime soon as ‘Powerheart’ maintains the speed of light rampage, the urgency more potent than ever! There’s just no stopping the German power metallers when they’re in this mood, the band wrecking the necks of everyone foolish enough to head bang at the same pace as the band – Sculforge seemingly un-catch-able in terms of a head banging rhythm quick enough! The band are out to conquer the world with their sophomore album, no-one and nowhere is safe from the bands relentless onslaught, ‘Conquer The Wild’ taming a very wide worldwide audience by stepping across into heavy/power metal territory – Sculforge dominating the airways with a hundred percent aplomb.
I’m telling ya readers, the band are gonna get you, no matter how far, it’s a done deal as far as I’m concerned, ‘Cosmic Crusade Chronicles’ marching on with the most majestic song on offer ‘Order Of The Soul’ – the band not relenting the phenomenal pace for a single second! The mix of power metal with the traditional metal gallop here is fabulous, the band maintaining the incredible intensity at maximum level as ‘Order Of The Soul’ roars by in a flash! I mentioned in my review of the bands debut album that Sculforge “don’t know where the brakes are”, something I still firmly believe in as ‘We Stand Together’ storms across the sky like a jet fighter off to war! To say the pace and power of the album has been outstanding, might just be the biggest understatement of the year so far, the anthemic rabble rousing nature of ‘We Stand Together’s chorus has surely gotta be a dead certainty for an in-concert crowd sing a long! And an at home sing a long too, the album roaring to a finish with the forty nine second ‘Towers’ – a bite sized barrage of speed and ferocity to round off a superb album.
Overall, a searing rampage of speed of light power metal, Sculforge deliver an incredibly infectious and head bang-able array of songs!
