THE NAIL
“The Nail”
Album Review by Iron Mathew

10/10

The Nail are an internationally based hard rock band featuring Girish And The Chronicles and The End Machine singer Girish Pradhan together with the Eroglu brothers Efe (lead guitar) and Reis Ali (drums, bass, guitars). Under the guidance of the brothers father, producer Cenk Eroglu (ex Winger), the bands self titled debut album emerged in 2024…

…featuring eleven heavy hitting hard rock songs with a distinct metal edge! The album runs for fifty two minutes and will have fans of (the aforementioned) The End Machine, Dio, Judas Priest and every power driven hard rock band from here to India and back, dripping with delight! Comments Pradhan, “this is unlike any record I have ever done” – and if you compare his singing on Girish And The Chronicles’ 2022 album ‘Hail To The Heroes’, you may be forgiven for thinking it’s actually someone else! Album opener ‘Hit & Run’ hits with a tonne of oomph, The Nail pounding the ground hard right from the off with a wall wobbling, building shaking barrage of bombastic hard rock! Just what the doctor ordered methinks, a very healthy dose of hearty hard rock!

A dose that’s on a constant refill and repeat, The Nail storming on with the even heavier ground pounding title song ‘The Nail’, the sound of nineties brash rock rising high in the air – but that said, the chorus break takes a massive melodic turn, ‘The Nail’ (the song) oozing an in concert sing a long moment for sure! But only if the band tour and perform it live, otherwise it’s just a listener sing a long in the comfort of houses, cars, or wherever it is played or heard! In 1992 American hard rockers Giant released ‘Time To Burn’ (from the bands ‘Time To Burn’ album), and it was an absolute barnstormer of pace and power with a punch harder than a heavyweight boxing champion – and now there’s The Nail’s ‘No Time To Burn’ hitting just as hard if not harder than Giant’s ‘Time To Burn’! The energy and oomph pouring outta both o’ these songs is insanely similar, no wonder I find ‘No Time To Burn’ so fucking attractive, ‘Time To Burn’ one of my favourite ever Giant songs! The opening threesome is gonna instantly grab the attentions of a worldwide audience and not let go, ‘Broken’ maintaining the albums recent upsurge in energy and pace, The Nail roaring louder than a parent standing on a Lego brick left lying around by their child! And how well I know that feeling, having been there done it – more than once! The infectious level since ‘The Nail’ (the album) began has been straight off the top shelf, ‘Broken’ dripping with an insatiable melodious intent!

A melodious intent that’s only gonna get stronger as ‘Walk The Line’ enters the fray boasting an elegant swagger not heard before, the strains of an impending ballad filling the air like a billowing plume of smoke! And yes, while there’s an element of balladry here, there’s also a heaviness that keeps ‘Walk The Line’ one foot outside ballad territory – the other foot occupying the hymn-like anthemic field of rock! The departure from the all out barrage of hard rock heard so far is abrupt and dramatic, ‘Soul Screamer’ entering the fray enraged and full of anger with an incredible ‘Painkiller’ era Judas Priest feel! And that includes some stunning “metal screams” from Pradhan, the power driven heavy metal style of the British legends pouring outta ‘Soul Screamer’ just like water pours over a waterfall! Sensational stuff from the international hard rock collective, a collective that marches on with shoulders back and heads held high as ‘Blackout (Popeye’s Sin)’ hits the hardest of any song on offer! The punch and crunch here is dynamic, vibrating everything in sight with an insane amount of force, the band viciously throwing every listener, fan and follower to the floor.

And still with no let up in either energy or oomph, the band canter on with the foot stomping ‘Exorcist’, and a ground shuddering attitude much greater than heard previously to vigorously tap the feet of everyone! And I mean everyone, for the band are commanding the airways and have total control over a worldwide audience – absolutely no-one’s safe from The Nail’s all conquering brand of hard rock music! An all conquering brand that’s been in full flow since the album began with no sign of slowing down anytime soon, ‘Hangman’s Noose’ striding in to view with an air of Southern rock! The band have been stretching the boundaries of hard rock with every song on offer, occasionally stepping across the border into metal territory, the variation on ‘The Nail’ incredibly wide, attracting an immensely wide audience – the bands fanbase increasing minute by minute!

And as the album heads for home with just two songs to go, there’s absolutely no let up in the variation on offer, ‘Underdog’ picking up the pace to race on at top speed! And a gruffer, rougher sound than ever before, Pradhan’s vocals snarling with venomous intent – the bands heavy metal influence shining brighter than a thousand suns right now! The iconic metal gallop is in full swing here, The Nail planting one “foot on the monitor” to adopt the instantly recognisable pose of heavy metal, every traditional metaller around the world turning their heads in the direction of the band. And with good reason too, The Nail are nailing it! Oh come on, it was only a matter of time before I came out with a pun – ‘The Nail’ coming to a close with the longest song on offer, the six minute plus ‘Fall Back Now’. And the return of the mellow hymn-like swagger heard earlier, ‘Fall Back Now’ progressing into a mighty thunder stomp across the chorus break.

Overall, a sparkling hard rock album with a heavy metal touch, every song is incredibly attractive, catchy and sing a long-able.
