THUNDERMOTHER Album Review: “Dirty & Divine”

THUNDERMOTHER
“Dirty & Divine”
Album Review by Iron Mathew

10/10

Thundermother are a hard rock band from Sweden formed in 2009. The band have released six albums to date – ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Disaster’ (2014), ‘Road Fever’ (2015), ‘Thundermother’ (2018), ‘Heat Wave’ (2020), ‘Black And Gold’ (2022), and ‘Dirty & Divine’…

…emerging in 2025 featuring a new line-up consisting of founder, guitarist Filippa Nassil, singer Linnea Vikstrom, drummer Joan Massing and bass player Majsan Lindberg – Thundermother returning with their sixth full length record to show the world they’re not finished! And they’re not – not by a long fucking shot, ‘Dirty & Divine’ a red hot thirty three minutes and ten songs that hit just as hard as anything the band has ever released. So if you’re thinking the Swedish thunder is waning, think a-fucking-gain ’cause it’s gonna take a lot more than a line-up change to put out the Thundermother fire – the new album striding into life with ‘So Close’, the familiar hard hitting harder rocking bluesy boogie of the Swedish rockers rising high in the air!

A solid opener to capture the attentions of the bands loyal fanbase as well as grab new fans, Thundermother march on with increased energy, pace and pizzazz courtesy of the up tempo ‘Can’t Put Out The Fire’ – the band strutting their stuff with immense aplomb! Apart from the obvious change, Thundermother have continued to grow and expand their sonic array, all the while retaining their “get the party started” attitude – ‘Speaking Of The Devil’ a fairly fast paced, power driven rocker with an incredibly high infectious level and superb sing a long ability, the chorus break a dead certainty to be sung, screamed and screeched by the entire audience in a live arena! So please Thundermother, play this one live! An opening treble that’s got progressively better and better, becomes a fabulous foursome as ‘Feeling Alright’ enters the fray with a much more melodic rock feel – the band letting loose everything they have in their arsenal! And that includes the bands tongue-in-cheek naughty nature too!

It’s been a fairly long time for new Thundermother material to emerge, but it’s definitely been worth the wait as the band press the pedal firmly to the metal to roar off at full throttle with the heavy metal edged ‘Take The Power’ – the ears of every metaller around the world pricking up to this one, their interest captured by the sheer oomph emanating outta ‘Take The Power’. The bands first single with the new line-up ‘I Left My License In The Future’, displays the bands customary, yet devastating hard rock sound that has driving anthem written all over it! And it re-established Thundermother as a force still to be reckoned with too, the Swedish stunners maintaining their thundering hard rock assault with the ground shuddering ‘Dead Or Alive’ – the infectious level rising right through the roof as the band deliver one of the best driving anthems of the year! And I realise ‘I Left My License In The Future’ is also a driving anthem, but that was two years ago, ‘Dead Or Alive’ taking the role of a driving anthem to new heights!

The band have been on fire since ‘Dirty & Divine’ began, nothing and no-one capable of putting it out, the album turning overly bombastic as the AC/DC-ish ‘Can You Feel It’ stomps into view to knock every listener, fan and follower through the floor and into the fucking basement! Yes readers, the force is that great, much greater than gravity as Thundermother continue their barnstorming romp with the bouncy ‘Bright Eyes’ – a touch of Southern rock swagger oozing outta the album right now! The band have always roamed around rock territory, leaving no stone unturned in terms of varying the rock on offer, the myriad of styles on show attracting a very wide array of fans – the bands new album coming to a close with the pulsating ‘American Adrenaline’. Up tempo and full of electrifying energy, ‘American Adrenaline’ captures the entire essence of the Thundermother sound, and goes a long way to reinforce their position as one of Sweden’s premier hard rock bands.

Overall, a punchy hard rocking album full of infectious songs that excite and delight, ‘Dirty & Divine’ hits the sweet spot with incredible accuracy.
