Game Over E.P. Review: “Blessed Are The Heretics”

GAME OVER
“BLESSED ARE THE HERETICS”
E.P. Review By Iron Mathew

8/10

Game Over are a thrash metal band from Italy formed in 2008 with their debut release, the ‘Heavy Damage’ E.P. emerging in 2009. Three full length albums have followed in 2012, 2014 and 2016 with a six song E.P. released in 2017.

With only a year since the release of the bands third album, Game Over are back and hitting as hard as ever with a six song E.P. featuring three live recordings alongside some new ones and a surprise cover song…

The two new songs featured on the E.P. are the title song and a re-recorded version of ‘No More’ from the bands second album. This re-recorded version is sung in the bands native Italian language and is titled ‘Mai Piu’. The other new song, ‘Blessed Are The Heretics’, reinforces the position Game Over have, as a top European thrash metal band. Thunderous and rampant, ‘Blessed Are The Heretics’ is six minutes plus of full on thrash metal, played with precision and power.

The band have toured extensively over the last year, and from their recent tours of the US and China, three songs have been recorded live, one song from each of the bands three studio albums. The surprise inclusion on the E.P. is a cover version of ‘You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)’ by British pop band Dead Or Alive from their 1985 album ‘Youthquake’. This cover is not just the standard “copy”, like how most bands cover songs, Game Over have ripped the song sheet to shreds and propelled it into the thrash metal genre with an injection of energy and intensity fused with aggression.

Overall, a blistering reminder of how good a thrash metal band Game Over are, whetting the appetite of thrash metal fans the world over in anticipation of studio album number four.
