Empiresfall Album Review: “A Piece To The Blind”

EMPIRESFALL
“A PIECE TO THE BLIND”
Album Review By Iron Mathew

10/10

Empiresfall are a thrash metal band from Germany formed in 2008, releasing the four song E.P. ‘Place Of Pain’ the following year. The bands debut album ‘Riot’ was released in 2014, with the band going on to share stages with the likes of Sinister, Equilibrium, Iron Angel, Metal Witch and Protector. The bands second album ‘A Piece To The Blind’ was released in 2018.

The crescendo building and eerily atmospheric, one and a half minute instrumental ‘The Descendant’ sets a menacing and very heavy vibe for what is about to follow in the next half hour. ‘Betrayers’ hits hard and smacks harder as it rumbles on relentlessly, more akin to the American thrash metal sound than the German sound, the country where Empiresfall hail from. A clear vocal delivery, hinting at a dry throaty growl makes for an easier lyrical understanding. Make sure those neck muscles are warmed up and flexed ready to go, as ‘In Decay’ is rampant and full of pace. Ferocious and fierce, ‘In Decay’ switches to the German thrash metal sound, Empiresfall seamlessly striding from polished thrash to brutal thrash. Versatility and variety in abundance, the opening double salvo is just the beginning of an explosive and energetic romp.

Pace is kept fast and furious as ‘Blood From The Sky’ storms in and races on. The chorus break is catchy and infectious, easily sing a long able, and Empiresfall are delivering all the elements that make up a good album. At only thirty minutes in length, the album has got a lot of work to do to get noticed, and it does just that with blistering pace and savage rhythms. ‘A Piece To The Blind’ (the album) is heavy, fast paced, energetic and infectious. Almost unbelievably, the pace gets even quicker as ‘Bloodshed And Chaos’ hurtles along at high velocity. The opening two songs may have displayed differing countries thrash metal styles, but since then, every song has merged those styles into just the one.

‘Wasteland’ is a mid to high tempo savage barrage of hard hitting thrash metal with a rhythm that will have your head nodding hard and feet stamping even harder. Thunderous as it romps by, ‘Wasteland’ is a collision of the power, and thrash metal genres. The fastest song on the album is the two and a half minute lightning quick ‘Enemy Of Mine’. Brutality, aggression and attitude sees ‘Enemy Of Mine’ launching an in your face style tirade of blistering thrash metal. This is cracking stuff… But all too soon and it’s the final song. Unbelievably, the half hour is almost up, but with one last hurrah, Empiresfall sign off in superb style with the title song ‘A Piece To The Blind’. Chugging, thundering, and swinging hard, ‘A Piece To The Blind’ is a ferocious flurry of thrash metal, bringing the curtain down on thirty breathless minutes of out and out thrash metal. What a journey… And now, where is the replay button . . .

Overall, a thunderous romp of high speed and brutal thrash metal, delivered at a furious pace.
