“IN THE BEGINNING”

Within The Giant’s Reach are a brand-new Texas based outfit that blend a myriad of genres including Djent, Deathcore and Death Metal. One of the things that immediately sticks out with this band is that they really do express their personal beliefs through their music with guitarist William Taylor elaborating: “The name is based on the struggles we face mentally and physically. The Giant represents the struggle towering over you, keeping you within reach. We don’t let them define us but we are in constant battle until the day you wake up, see your full potential, reach for the sky, and conquer your Giant. We are stoked for fans to hear the new E.P. and feel the energy. We want it to wake them up inside. We want to inspire them to conquer their giants and do great things. No matter how hard it gets; move forward. You only have one life, so live it. We want out project to drive, our reach for heavy brutal music, bringing back lyrical song-writing.”

And, it’s this theme of courage that forms the subject matter throughout their debut E.P. entitled “In the Beginning”. The E.P. begins with “The Summit” which opens with a seriously cool “Djent” style riff that lays the foundation of this E.P. perfectly. This first track demonstrates that “Within The Giant’s Reach” are more than capable of producing a high-quality sound whilst delivering aggression and meaningful lyrical content. The following track is their current single from the E.P. entitled “Faceless”. This track is by far the heaviest and the most “Djent” sounding on the E.P. and features crushing breakdowns, complex riffs and ferocious vocals.

One of the things that really stands out on this E.P. is the skill-set of the drummer Evan Parigi and the production behind his craft. And, the one track that really showcases his efforts is “Rise”. This track proves how diverse the band can be within a few mins from shifting to and from “two-step” rhythms to progressive breakdowns together with blending a myriad of different genres including Thrash, Deathcore, Djent and Death Metal.

The final track on this E.P. entitled “Same Blood” carries a strong message that attacks racism in a head-on collision and it really hits hard. For example, during this track you hear Norman Lucas unleash the lyrics “The colour of skin doesn’t mean a fuck to me. If it defines who we are, that’s a false reality the blood that’s inside us, Humanity! This is what binds us, diversity!”. To inject such a strong subject matter for the final track really does give the ending to this E.P. a strong aesthetical atmosphere and you really do get a feel that this band really do mean it when they express their passion and views through their music. 

Throughout this entire E.P., the band show no remorse by delivering a robust offensive of sound on every single track. For a debut release this E.P. is extremely impressive with each member contributing their own musical creativity and energy to the overall sound. As the band start to gain traction and generate a decent sized fan-base through their music and upcoming tour its certain that they will become a well-respected band within the international music scene.
