Review By Mick ‘The Beard’ Staley
We have had to wait a very long, long, long, long, long ……………time, for the 3rd album from the mighty Evil Scarecrow.
The wait has definitely been worth it as it now seems like I am reviewing a new band.
The production on this makes the first 2 albums sound as if they were recorded in Dr Hells bedroom …… Oh wait?!!!!
The band said they wanted to ‘do it properly’ this time and with the fans help through the pledge scheme, they were able to secure the services of probably one of the best producers in the business, Mr Russ Russell.
The energy of their live sets have never been captured on previous recordings but Galactic Hunt lays that to rest. This album has everything that epitomises Evil Scarecrow, humour, high energy and professionalism.
We have never been in any doubt about their talent and pulling power, you only have to look back at Bloodstock and the 10.000+ crowd they pulled. but Scarecrow have never had quality recordings to back it up until now.
The opening intro (especially written for E.S. a Latin chorus chanting Evil Scarecrow) draws you in from the off ready for the first track, ‘Rise’
There are some new tracks on here that I’m sure will be crowd favourites at future gigs, ‘Dance with the Cyclops’ along with accordion playing will soon be there I’m sure.
‘Crabulon’ and ‘Book Of Doom’ are there which are already a great addition to the Scarecrow set list.
My personal favourites is the homage to the kids gameshow ‘Knightmare’ they even managed to secure the services of Hugo Myatt, the presenter of the show to do the voice overs.
Galactic Hunt puts Scarecrow firmly on the map as a serious(ish) recording force, and along with their great stage shows and quirky sense of humour it wont be long before Evil Scarecrow will be playing high up on festival bills.
Galactic Hunt is well produced, well written, well executed and a must for your CD collection.
