“ECSTASY”

Kissin’ Dynamite are a hard rock band from Germany formed in 2007, releasing their debut album ‘Steel Of Swabia’ in 2008. Whether by coincidence or planned, I am not one hundred percent sure, the band have released studio albums every two years . . . with their sixth album ‘Ecstasy’ a 2018 release.

For a time during the mid to late eighties, stadium rock ruled the world with the likes of Bon Jovi, Poison, Def Leppard and Scorpions all leading the way. Their sound was big, anthemic and a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. Music to “get the party started” was on offer, and that is exactly what German hard rockers Kissin’ Dynamite serve up on their latest release ‘Ecstasy’. The album opens with the adrenalin pumping, fist in the air panache of ‘I’ve Got The Fire’. Reminiscent of iconic hard rock bands Poison, Ratt and Faster Pussycat, ‘I’ve Got The Fire’ is big riffing, with an even bigger chorus, one hundred percent sing a long-able. Bombastic and explosive, the opening barrage marches on with the harder rocking ‘You’re Not Alone’. Feet stamping, head nodding and a great big smile are the involuntary reactions, such is the infectiousness of the opening double salvo. The Southern rock swagger takes front and centre as ‘Somebody’s Gotta Do It’ strides in and majestically storms on. Full of bombast and more punchy than a heavyweight boxing champions sparring session, ‘Somebody’s Gotta Do It’ is a highly energetic and pulse racing offering. The title song ‘Ecstasy’ is quite simply superb…

…I need not use any other descriptive, as “superb” is the only description needed. Faster paced than anything heard so far, ‘Ecstasy’ is up tempo, anthemic and features the vocal talents of Anna Brunner (singer for Exit Eden) in a kind of duet performance, well actually no, more of a duelling performance…the kind of passionate and emotion fuelled performance that Meat Loaf and Cher delivered on ‘Dead Ringer For Love’, from the 1981 Meat Loaf album of the same name. And for anyone who is either not old enough or hasn’t heard this Meat Loaf classic, click here and take a listen to hear what I mean. Whoa here we go, ballad time… ‘Still Around’ is a power ballad straight out of the top drawer. Emotionally delivered, ‘Still Around’ is a sway from side to side type of song, with lighters held high, and a brief breather from the electrifying energy oozing from the album…energy that returns higher than ever with the “foot on the monitor” sing a long hard rock anthem ‘Superhuman’. In a live arena, the crowd are gonna go wild for this one, pure energy and infectiousness oozing from every twang and thump, as ‘Superhuman’ emphatically rocks and rolls its way to a conclusion. Breath taking stuff…

…that doesn’t look like letting up any time soon. ‘Placebo’ is heavier than anything else on offer, and easily sits within ‘Keep The Faith’ era Bon Jovi. None of the albums addictiveness is lost as ‘Placebo’ majestically marches on. Slowing the pace to a mid tempo foot stomp, ‘Breaking The Silence’ is a hard rock thump, the kinda thumping and anthemic stomps that American legends Manowar are famous for. Bringing the album back to the punchy, adrenalin pumping stadium rock style of earlier, ‘Waging War’ is hard edged hard rock of the most highly addictive nature. Over forty six minutes, Kissin’ Dynamite deliver eleven songs of feel good, anthemic party anthems, that will live long in the memories of fans all around the world. ‘One More Time’ is classic eighties hard rock, big riffing and punchy with a one hundred percent sing a long style chorus. Bringing the album to a close is the second ballad on offer, a much mellower offering than ‘Still Around’. Raise those lighters high in the air and salute the impending end of a great album of hard rock.

Overall, hard rocking and adrenalin pumping stadium rock, delivered with huge amounts of energy and passion, ‘Ecstasy’ is a great album.
