Metall are a power metal band from Germany formed in 1982, stabilising in 1985 with a solid line up and recording a number of songs that got played on radio stations. A number of different problems forced the band to split up in 1991. Twenty two years later, founding member Sven Rappoldt restarted the band, and Metall released ‘Metalheads’ in 2017. Two years later and the band have released their sophomore album ‘Metal Fire’.

The latest in a long line of German power metal bands are back, just two years after their incredible debut album. With ‘Metalheads’ still reverberating around the worldwide metal scene, Metall return with their sophomore album ‘Metal Fire’, packed to the rafters with gold standard power metal gems. The openings salvo, ‘Metal Maniacs’ is a new heavy metal anthem to be sung, chanted and screamed by everyone everywhere. Bombastic and explosive, ‘Metal Maniacs’ is a glorious opening, setting the album on its way in fabulous style. The anthemic chant style chorus is a must sing along for everyone at a Metall concert. Displaying the awesome buzz guitar sound from the legendary NWOBHM evolution, ‘What Is Real’ thunders into life, quickening the pace, leaving scorch marks as it hurtles on by. On the other side of the metal spectrum, ‘Master Key’ is a lot slower, heavier and much more menacing than anything else on offer. The guitar riffage is savage, with senses taking a pummelling as ‘Master Key’ marches on.

Metall are metal in every sense of the word. ‘Stay For A Night To Pray’, chiming in at over seven minutes in length, is a gloriously atmospheric and climactic slab of pulsating heavy metal. Pace and power, sing a long able and catchy, ‘Stay For A Night To Pray’ has it all. Hustling, bustling, thundering and shuddering the ground it strides on, ‘Hold The Line’ is punchy power metal of the highest order. A quick pace and catchy sing a long style chorus makes for an anthemic listen and a reason to punch the air hard in delight. The quicker pace doesn’t relent either, ‘Beneath My Mind’ scorching the Earth as it hurries on by. With only nine songs on offer across a forty one minute play time, ‘Metal Fire’ is a shorter album than most these days, but the impact it makes is fucking huge…

…and will last for a very long time. The classic sound of traditional heavy metal lets rip in a flurry of furious riffs as ‘Easy Rider’ takes flight and rumbles, no chugs, on and on. A masterpiece of metal, ‘Easy Rider’ is infectious, and has an anthemic chant style chorus that will have everyone screaming “easy, easy rider” at the tops of their voices. The quickest song on offer, also the shortest at less than three minutes, is the prophetically titled ‘Metal For You’. A title and a lyrical content you’d expect from a band such as Manowar, ‘Metal For You’ is exactly what Metall give you. An anthem for the new age, ‘Metal For You’ is a corker. The final song on offer is an alternative version of the earlier ‘Easy Rider’. The alternative being it is sung in the bands native language – German.

Overall, Metall deliver fast paced, pummelling, foot on the monitor style heavy metal, with a huge dose of power metal.
