EVERFROST Album Review: “Winterider”

EVERFROST
“WINTERIDER”
Album Review by Piers Renfree

7/10

Everfrost are a symphonic power metal five piece who originated from Finland and consist of Mikael Salo (who you may know from Dyecrest, Metal De Facto & Northern Seer) – lead vocals, Markus Lacto – lead guitar and vocals, Allan Hasanen – bass guitar, Benjamin Snowkid (also a member of Metal De Facto, ex-Snowkid, ex-Skyhammer) – keyboards and Joonas Salminen (ex-Winterthroned) – drums.

Winterider is their third album, following their 2015 debut “Blue Eyed Emotion” and last year’s live album “Cold Night Out”. The band have also released an E.P. 2017’s “Appetite For Candlelight”.

Fans of DragonForce should enjoy the blistering power metal attack of opening song and album’s title track.

The album is a concept album, full of time changes, light and shade and melodic leads from Markus Lacto and seventh song “Brandy and Anti-Freeze” features a cracking solo that Iron Maiden would be proud of.

I was gutted that this copy for review did not include a copy of the band’s manga comic book that comes with some editions of the album and provides a visual side to the story of Winterider that is told in the album.

However, this is epic, melodic, bombastic power metal of the highest order, full of sing-along songs, sung with nice, clean vocals, that should be great crowd pleasers in the live arena.
