“Stories Of Times Forgotten”
E.P. Review by Iron Mathew

9/10

Krilloan are a melodic power metal band from Sweden formed in 2020 by the disciple of metal Klas Holmgren. Inspired by bands such as Blind Guardian, Helloween, Gamma Ray, and Iron Savior, Klas and his band Krilloan, released the five song E.P. ‘Stories Of Times Forgotten’ in 2021…

…and is a barn storming and rapturous romp of scorching power metal. The five songs on offer are all fast, furious and infectious. The E.P. explodes into life with the blistering speedster ‘Into The Storm’, a frenetic fury of pace and power. ‘Into The Storm’ has purpose and intent, and is a red hot scorcher of an opening salvo. The pace and intensity doesn’t relent one bit either, as ‘Yggdrasil’ gallops in and powers on. More traditional sounding heavy metal than the opener’s power metal stance, ‘Yggdrasil’ is the stuff of “foot on the monitor”, and will send mosh pits totally insane.

After such a blistering opening double shot, you’d think the fuel for the fire was all burned out – but oh no! Krilloan seem to have an endless supply of fuel, pouring more and more on the fire, and blazing on with the high velocity ‘Fireborn’. The pace is incredible, and the chorus chant of “fireborn” designed to be a crowd participation moment in a live arena, with Krilloan turning heads wherever the E.P. gets played. And just like a laser guided missile hitting its target with amazing accuracy, so do Krilloan…right in the sweet spot!

The fastest song so far ‘Moonblade’, gallops in and races on at lightning speed. Bands such as DragonForce and Cellador, are gonna be quivering in their boots, with this new speed/power outfit from Sweden setting about wrenching the title of “kings of speed metal” from their grasp. Bloody awesome stuff! And without time for a breather, the fifth and final song launches high into the stratosphere – and is the slowest song on offer! And when I say slowest, I mean it’s still fast, just not as fast as the four previous songs. But ‘Times Forgotten’ exudes so much of the European style of power metal that it’s instantly likeable, as are all five offerings presented here.

Overall, a red hot scorcher of a power metal march, ‘Stories Of Times Forgotten’ is a sparkling five song tsunami of incredible epicness.
