HELL IN THE CLUB E.P. Review: “Kamikaze – 10 Years In The Slums”

HELL IN THE CLUB
“Kamikaze – 10 Years In The Slums”
E.P. Review by Iron Mathew

9/10

Hell In The Club are a hard rock band from Italy formed in 2009, releasing five albums to date – ‘Let The Games Begin’ (2011), ‘Devil On My Shoulder’ (2014), ‘Shadow Of The Monster’ (2016), ‘See You On The Dark Side’ (2017), and ‘Hell Of Fame’ (2020). Planning to celebrate ten years since the release of their debut album, 2021 should have seen the emergence of the five song E.P. ‘Kamikaze – 10 Years In The Slums’ – but because of the prevalent situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the production process underwent several disruptions, forcing the band to postpone its release…

…until now!

March 2022 will see the release of the E.P. – featuring two new songs, two covers, and a re-recorded song from the bands 2011 debut album ‘Let The Games Begin’.

Of the two new songs – ‘Kamikaze’ is an energetic up tempo slab of hard rock. Very infectious and overly catchy, ‘Kamikaze’ is highly sing a long-able, and will involuntarily nod heads and tap feet of listeners everywhere. And the second new song ’10 Years In The Slums’, maintains the sky high energy level, adding a lot more punch and pizzazz. The chorus is a beauty – just as sing a long-able as ‘Kamikaze’s and twice as infectious. Hell In The Club firing on all cylinders as far as new material is concerned.

Of the two covers – ‘He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask)’ by Alice Cooper, taken from his ninth album ‘Constrictor’ (released in 1986), features a more party rock feel than the original, the band stamping their own footprint on the songs sound. The second cover, is the bands “less metal more rock” version of ‘Chainsaw Charlie (Murders In The New Morgue) by American metallers W.A.S.P. taken from the bands fifth album ‘The Crimson Idol’ (released in 1992). Hell In The Club’s version features the same pace and tempo, but is much rockier than the original, the band implanting their own party rock atmosphere on a well known classic.

And the final song ‘In Your Eyes’ is a reworked version, originally released as a bonus on the Japanese edition of the bands debut album – appearing as an acoustic ballad. This version however, is not acoustic – still a ballad yes, but now with all the bells and whistles of a traditional sounding, lighters in the air and sway from side to side ballad!

Overall, a five song flattering featuring different aspects to Hell In The Club’s arsenal of hard rock swagger.
