JIZZY PEARL’S LOVE/HATE Album Review: “Hell C.A.”

JIZZY PEARL’S LOVE/HATE
“Hell C.A.”
Album Review by Piers Renfree

8.5/10

Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1958, Jizzy Pearl (real name James Wilkinson), has had quite a career, since he started singing in the band Data Clan, which became Love/Hate.

Love/Hate were playing in the mid-late 80’s and released their debut album “Blackout In The Red Room” in 1990. Since then, Jizzy Pearl has been on over a dozen album releases, not only with Love/Hate, but also singing with the likes of Ratt, Quiet Riot, L.A. Guns and Adler’s Appetite, as well as his own solo records. As well as being a prolific rock vocalist, Jizzy has also authored four books as well. “Hell C.A.” is the latest album to feature Jizzy on vocals.

Things kick off with the rip roaring “One Hot Minute”, and that is followed by “Acid Babe”, which has a stop/start thing running through it. Personally I found it stopped the song from firing on all cylinders. “Gonna Take You Higher” is about Jack Parsons, who was a devotee of Aliester Crowley and also a pioneer of rocketry aviation.

The ten songs here go on for just over forty minutes and the bluesy hair metal suits Jizzy’s gritty, blues vocals perfectly. Personal favourites here are “Hard To Say Goodbye”, “Bruised And Battered” and “When You Gonna Come Home”.
