“Proclamation Of War”
Album Review by Iron Mathew

9.5/10

Morphetik are a thrash metal band from Sweden formed in 2018, releasing their debut album ‘Omens Of War’ in 2020. Featuring an aggression fuelled style of thrash similar to bands such as Kreator, Sodom, and Sabbat – Morphetik released their sophomore album ‘Proclamation Of War’ in 2023.

More aggressive and with an unrelenting ferocity, ‘Proclamation Of War’ features ten songs over a blistering twenty six minutes – yes readers, just twenty six minutes! Even Slayer’s ten song genre changing seminal masterpiece ‘Reign In Blood’ ran for longer – at twenty nine minutes (insert laughing emoji here). And even though that was over three and a half decades ago, ‘Reign In Blood’ is still regarded as the benchmark for all new thrash – with Morphetik getting damn close! Opening the album, ‘March Of The Fallen’ is a one minute crescendo building instrumental…

…leading into the ferocious ‘Death Incarnate’ – a high velocity rampage of violent thrash metal to get the blood pumping and adrenaline flowing. The band on an immediate roll – a steam roller, flattening everything and everyone that stands in their way! The skull crushing bone breaking menace of ‘Death Incarnate’ is vicious, Morphetik taking no prisoners as they forge ahead with ‘World Wide War’ – an even faster paced barrage of thrash than ‘Death Incarnate’. The band fully fuelled and raring to go are keeping their foot firmly pressed on the accelerator, ignoring speed limits and evading traffic cops – the opening brace a devastating display of aggression. Aggression that is far from over, ‘Proclamation Of War’ maintaining the blistering tirade of thrash with the heavy foot stomping ‘Domination’ – changing gear at around forty seconds in, to blaze a fiery trail of scorching hot flames in its wake! What a sensational opening triple salvo!

The pace of the album is simply breath taking, the band not slowing down for anyone or anything – ‘Death From Above’ the next high velocity barrage of thrash. Mosh pits are gonna be in a state of ecstasy, with the album providing ample opportunity for violent head banging. Best have the number of the local A&E to hand just in case you need it! With every song clocking in at under four minutes in length – six of them under three minutes – there is simply no time for a breather, Morphetik moving quickly on with the neck breaking ‘Endless Pain’. The surge of energy and savagery is phenomenal, the band a menacing force of nature, the album a speed infused thrash metal assault. An assault that is not yet finished – ‘Resist To Exist’ opening with a sinister feel and foot stomping heavily as it builds a crescendo of pulsating heaviness – eventually assuming the speed of the album thus far. I dunno how many gears this band have, but it’s a lot!

Blistering speed reigns supreme as ‘Acolytes Of Destruction’ takes flight and sets a ferocious pace through the skies – birds and clouds in imminent danger of annihilation! The force with which the band are ripping through the album is biblical in stature, with everything in its path destined for total destruction. Anyone foolish enough to stand in the bands way deserves everything they fucking get! Morphetik are like an unstoppable object, forging ahead with the fierce ‘Fatal Incursion’ – and a barrage of savagery that makes the rest of ‘Proclamation Of War’ seem tame! The band have been brutal, bludgeoning the listener with severe GBH of the ear-hole! And with just one song left to go, if your ears ain’t yet bleeding, you haven’t listened to the whole album have you! Tell the truth now – I can tell when you’re lying! ‘Nuclear Homicide’ brings the album to a close as it began – a high velocity rampage of violent thrash metal oozing from the speakers, destroying its immediate surroundings to leave only desolation! What an absolutely ferocious album!

Overall, a brutal barrage of savagery delivered at a phenomenally ferocious pace with an insane amount of head bang ability.
