“Into Oblivion”

Oblivion Vortex are a heavy metal band from Italy formed in 2024 by ex Highlord singer Andrea Marchisio, releasing the bands debut E.P. ‘Into Oblivion’ later the same year.

Featuring a sound stemmed from the likes of Black Sabbath and Candlemass, Oblivion Vortex thunder through the four songs on offer at a very heavy, doom laden mid tempo pace – the bands line-up for the E.P. comprising singer Marchisio, guitarist Marco Campanati, drummer Claudio Rostagno (Ivory), and bass player Matteo Capello.

The E.P. is fairly long for a four song release, clocking in at twenty four minutes in length – opening with ‘Lingering In Black’ and an eerie effects laden first minute or so followed by a ground shuddering foot stomp that’s gonna shake buildings to their foundations! The Black Sabbath inspiration is undeniable, ‘Lingering In Black’ sauntering forth at a slow, measured stroll. And with a change in tempo and feel, ‘Oblivion To Come’ is classic sounding, mid paced traditional heavy metal, the band adopting a “foot on the monitor” mentality to echo the early days of the legendary NWOBHM evolution.

The first half of the E.P. has lumbered across metal territory, taking its time as the ground is pounded very hard – ‘Call Of The Void’ returning the eeriness from earlier but with a much more atmospheric aura! And then after just thirty seconds in, the levels of majesty and elegance sky rocket, ‘Call Of The Void’ constantly changing its ambience as it wanders on – the fourth and final song ‘Only The Dead Will Survive’ emanating an anthemic feel within its doom laden march, Oblivion Vortex delivering four, very heavy songs with a massive nod to the early eighties metal sound.

Overall, a heavy, doom laden foot stomp to shudder the ground, ‘Into Oblivion’ E.P. is a thunder fuelled metal march.
