Ancient Dome Album Review: “The Void Unending”

ANCIENT DOME
THE VOID UNENDING”
Album Review By Iron Mathew

8/10

Ancient Dome are a thrash metal band from Italy forming in 2000 releasing three demos before their debut album, ‘Human Key’ was released in 2009. The bands second album ‘Perception Of The World’ emerged the following year, with third album ‘Cosmic Gateway To Infinity’ released in 2014. ‘The Void Unending’ is the bands fourth album and was released in 2017.

‘Target: Unknown’ is an atmospheric and crescendo building one minute intro that leads straight into the heavy chug of the opening song ‘Black Passage’. Driven heavily by guitars, ‘Black Passage’ take its time to get going proper, although when it does, it is a heavy rampage of riffs and rhythms that will invoke instant head banging. Influenced more by the American style of thrash metal than the German style, Ancient Dome increase the intensity with the title song ‘The Void Unending’. Buzzing guitars that scorch a blazing trail, ‘The Void Unending’ is a full on thrash metal assault. The aural assault continues with the thundering ‘IV – Logic Of Nonsense’. Heavier than the previous song, ‘IV – Logic OF Nonsense’ thunders by like a fully laden freight train with a tight deadline to keep.

Ancient Dome progress their new album at a heavier feel as each song passes by, with ‘Panic Generator’ a pulsating buzz of blazing guitars. The pace is quick, the guitar buzz is reminiscent of the iconic NWOBHM movement and Ancient Dome are delivering a style of thrash metal that has been blended with the classic traditional sound of heavy metal. Screechy and screaming guitar solos accompany every song and ‘The Void Unending’ (the album) is turning in a very good performance. ‘The Rules Of Hate’ explodes into life and is off and running at high velocity. An amazing turn of speed, a thunderous chugging rhythm and a more aggressive feel, ‘The Rules Of Hate’ is out and out thrash metal of the more brutal kind.

With no slow down for a breather, the album storms on with ‘Fifth Dimension’ rattling along at speed, inducing vigorous head banging among the bands legions of fans around the globe. ‘Fifth Dimension’ is an instrumental that thumps and thuds its way through some sparkling guitar work and a rhythm so infectious you will be smiling from ear to ear… Clocking in at over six minutes in length, ‘D.I.E. (Droids In Exile)’ is an epic journey of pummelling thrash metal. Full of energy and high on intensity, ‘D.I.E. (Droids In Exile)’ steps up a gear and thunders along at top speed, wandering towards a mid tempo pace, but always returning to the out and out pace of the speed/thrash metal genre. Bringing the album to a close is the up tempo and energetic ‘Chain Reaction’. Pounding and pummelling, ‘Chain Reaction’ is a very heavy end to a very heavy album of thrash metal.

Overall, a pulsating thrash metal assault that will pound and pummel your senses with heavy guitars and thunderous rhythms, invoking some vigorous head banging.
