Attica Rage Album Review: “Warheads LTD”

ATTICA RAGE
“WARHEADS LTD”
Album Review By Chris Palmer

7.5/10

Attica Rage is a four-piece band from Scotland which was formed in 2003 by brothers Richie Rage [Drums] and Jonny Parr [Vocals/Guitar]. The band is completed by Stevie Bell [Guitar] and Matthew Ward [Bass].

Having completed many tours and festival appearances across the UK and Europe, Attica Rage have built a solid fanbase. The Glasgow-based band has a solid reputation for energetic and powerful performances on stage and has released three excellent albums since formation: “Ruin Nation” [2008], “Road Dog” [2011], and “88 MPH” [2012]. This year saw the release of fourth album “Warheads LTD” via Off Yer Rocka Recordings on 16th June.

Having been a big fan of this band since seeing them live when touring the “Road Dog” album, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to review new album “Warheads LTD” when it was released. Needless to say, I was delighted when a copy of the CD dropped through my letterbox.

Containing ten tracks and running for a total time of 44 minutes and 21 seconds, the album opens with the excellent “Beyond The 45”. Beginning with excellent guitar-play, this number then settles into an infectious heavy rocking rhythm that’ll have you nodding your head and tapping your feet in no time at all. With vocals that contain great melody and catchy chorus sections, “Beyond The 45” is a great opening to the album.

“Falling Down” will have you singing along to its memorable choruses immediately as it rolls on and leads you into the title track, “Warheads LTD”. This track is a great heavy rocker that’ll have you headbanging proudly, as will the impressive “El Chupacabra” with its brilliant rhythm a chugging guitar riffs … Absolutely brilliant track which is followed by “All Summer Long” with its neat guitar-play and rhythm that brings the first half of this fine album to a close.

The second half kicks off with the slightly slower “Lost In Memory”. Having a ballad-type style to it, it’s a welcome addition to the previous heavier numbers and contains some great guitar solos throughout. “Into The Ether” is a neat little instrumental number that leads you towards “New World Decay”, which opens with the drums before settling into a great rocking rhythm that’ll have you tapping your feet and nodding your head in appreciation. This track contains chorus sections that are melodic and catchy as hell, reminding me of the Foo Fighters in places. Following is track nine, the Prelude to final number, “Haunted”, which is a slow, ballad-type track that closes out the album in suitable style.

With “Warheads LTD” Attica Rage have made a very good follow-up to “88 MPH”. The album shows a band confident and comfortable with their signature sound as they play through 44 and a half minutes of great rocking numbers.

Whilst not an essential addition to a metalhead’s music collection, I urge you to check this band out. “Warheads LTD” is proof that these Scottish Rockers are back with a bang … All Hail the Rage!
