BLACK SPACE RIDERS
“AMORETUM vOL. 1”
Album Review by Stacey Fawcett
9/10
Following on from their internationally acclaimed “Refugeeum” Black Space Raiders are back with an atmospheric rock album which combines themes of love and hate. This is executed perfectly in a gentle but hard hitting 45 minutes of musical excellence.
“Lovely Lovelie” This song kicks you up the arse immediately, it has some great grungy qualities.
“Another Sort Of Homecoming” The build-up of the song with layer after layer of awesomeness is fantastic. It sounds futuristic and fuzzy, it sounds like something that David Bowie would have written. This is already my favourite song of the album; the cavernous sounding vocals really work. As much as I enjoyed “Lovely Lovelie” this is the track that should have opened the album.
“Soul Shelter (Inside of me)” is anthemic with drumming which pounds through you like a slightly anxious welcoming heartbeat. It’s powerful, dynamic – everything a song should be. Then seeps in the enticing “Movements” it’s slow and seductive. This song feels personal and resonates through your entire being. This is appropriately followed by “Come And Follow” as you would happily follow the band down their musical path, where you would discover a combination of relaxation and heavy riffs keeping you awake.
“Friends Are Falling” is the gentlest track of the album at first, then bam. Here comes the funky drums and bass fuzz, you know something is coming and there will be a crescendo of musical euphoria coming soon. When it hits, it has a chorus that anyone could not resist singing along to whilst headbanging. “Fire! Fire! (Death Of A Giant)” has an intro which is very different to the rest of the album but still maintains the quirky feeling that the album breathes. The track is heavy but the vocal harmonies are beautiful and force feed you some serious light and shade. “Fellow Peacemakers” is the epic piano driven song which sadly ends this album; it really has been a beautiful listen.
I have really enjoyed listening to this album; it’s futuristic, edgy whilst being metal. The album really builds and comes alive track after track, it just gets better. I would happily listen to this in a festival setting, this band needs a huge audience – they deserve one. Bring on part II !
