BLAZE OF PERDITION
“CONSCIOUS DARKNESS”
Album Review By Barry Vest Sr
9.5/10
Upon first inspection one might see this as an EP. At 4 songs and 44 minutes I harken back to the glory days of epic metal. However, nothing can prepare you for the onslaught of layers and strength that is presented here. I sure was caught off-guard. I know this follow-up album rides on the back of an album born out of tragedy and is a grand album that pulled many under the wing of the band. How many bands go above and beyond their Penultimate album? In this case they not only rise to the challenge, they gut punch it into submission. Melodic Polish Black Metal at a sonic level that begs for sacrifice in its name. The slow technical leads are incredible and backed by a mountain of rhythmic bass along with riffs that crush your mind. XCIII seems to make his guitars exude feeling that penetrates you. Finally, they have found their sound after many albums under their belt. As I myself can attest, sometimes near-death experiences can push out things that were previously unknown. Without a doubt a must have to prove that albums are not about the number of tracks, but the feeling the songs invoke in whatever time it takes to complete.
