Broken Teeth Album Review: “4 On The Floor”

BROKEN TEETH
“4 ON THE FLOOR”
Album Review By Lloyd Parkinson

7/10

Broken Teeth are a hard hitting, arse kicking and fuel injected rock and roll band that I’d never listened to before I joined the Metal Gods TV crew. Broken Teeth formed in 1999 when the singer Jason McMaster and guitarist Paul Lidel from the band “Dangerous Toys” teamed up with Bruce Rivers to begin a new musical project. The current line up consists of Jason McMaster on vocals, Jared Tuten and David Beeson on guitars, Robb Lampman on bass and Bruce Rivers on drums.

On first listening to this album AC/DC came to my mind instantly but its more of the Bon Scott era with a bit more intensity and aggression. The opening track “Four on The Floor” is full of hard rocking attitude that opens with a roaring muscle car, exactly what you would expect from such a rock and roll band. The second track “Sinful” take a different turn and is a bit more of a mid tempo number which sounds a bit more like a 70’s style ZZ Top. Never the less it is a slow burning and rocking track that oozing that rock and roll signature sound. The third track “All Or Nothing returns from the bluesy previous track into a more all out rocking and punchier track. Its after this track that this album really starts to gain tempo and aggression.

House of Damnation is undeniably the hardest hitting and fastest track on the album. I’m actually quite a big fan of gang style vocals that are widely used by bands like Airbourne. These type of vocals are consistently used throughout this album but they really do stand out on this track. Let The War Machine Roll is another hard hitting fast track with great riffs. Its one of those tracks that when played live would set a crowd into a frenzied beer soaked riot.

The band also pays tribute to the late Lemmy Kilmster on the eighth track Never Dead. The lyrics in the chorus scream out the words “I believe in Motorhead, all the gauges in red, Motorhead never dead”. The band’s old school roots don’t just stop there, as the tenth and final track on the album is actually a cover of KISS’s 1975 track “Rock Bottom”. However, I would have preferred an original track to take the album out with a cylinder pumping bang.

All in all, this is a hard hitting, fuel quenching and cylinder pumping rock and roll album. If you dont get charged up and crack open a beer when listening to this powerhouse then this album is either not for you or you’re probably dead already. This is AC/DC injected rock and roll on Anabolic Steroids.
