From The Depth are a heavy/power metal band from Italy formed in 2008, releasing their debut album ‘Back To Life’ in 2011. The band toured heavily across Europe following the release of ‘Back To Life’, supporting bands such as Rhapsody Of Fire, Moonspell and Sonata Arctica. In recent years, the band has undergone some line-up changes, with the bands sophomore album ‘Moments’, a 2020 release.

Storming out of Parma, From The Depth hit hard with their second full length offering ‘Moments’. Featuring a heavy blend of power metal and traditional heavy metal, the five piece band explode into life with the electrifying pace of the albums opener, the immense and intense ‘Immortal’. Fast paced and punchy, ‘Immortal’ is heavy/power metal straight out of the top drawer – and a breathless album opener. ‘Spread Your Fire’ quickens the pace, moving along at lightning speed, bringing similarities with pioneering German heavy/power metal band, the legendary Rage. The mix of power and melody with thrash metal traits is a phenomenal mix, and one that Rage perfected – From The Depth echoing that perfection with ‘Spread Your Fire’. The more traditional European power metal pace lights up the album in the shape of ‘Ten Years’ – hugely melodic and highly infectious as it struts its stuff.

What a thrilling opening triple salvo, whetting appetites of fans worldwide with high anticipation for more of the same. And From The Depth don’t disappoint, albeit at a slower pace with the mid tempo stomper ‘Streets Of Memory’. Just as heavy, just as melodic, just as infectious, ‘Streets Of Memory’ allows a breather from the albums earlier devastating pace. The instrumental ‘Hypnos’ is a two minute eerie and haunting passage, acting as an intro for the albums intensity to resume with the heavy hitting ‘Forget And Survive’. A bludgeoning mid tempo trot, ‘Forget And Survive’ changes pace regularly, highlighting the bands willingness to experiment and vary their musical approach.

At almost eight minutes in length, ‘Just Ice’ is a cinematic epic, majestic and melodic, and will take your breath away. Striding purposefully, ‘Just Ice’ is addictive, and acts as the albums centrepiece, a focal point for the most emphatic offering the album has to offer. And whoa – the heavy thunderous intensity is immediately back in force, as ‘Missed’ storms in and forges a ferocious path as it swaggers forth. Heavy hitting just doesn’t do it justice – ‘Missed’ hits like a steamroller flattening tarmac, relentless ’til the end! The eerie menace of earlier returns for the intro to ‘A Matter Of Time’, before ‘A Matter Of Time’ wakes up with a thunderous rage, proceeding to storm on at full velocity. As we approach the final song, From The Depth have overall, delivered fast paced and emphatic power metal to make the genres founders proud. ‘Somewhere’ is the albums final song, lacking all the intensity and oomph of the preceding nine songs, opting for a more mellow, power ballad feel. As it strolls by, ‘Somewhere’ builds the tension to a crescendo, becoming an epic encore-like, crowd on their feet show ending. An unexpected finish to the album, yet a pleasant surprise too.

Overall, a bombastic and thundering romp of fast paced heavy/power metal, ‘Moments’ is a barnstormer of an album.
