GATE OF MIND E.P. Review: “The Beast Inside”

GATE OF MIND
“The Beast Inside”
E.P. Review by Iron Mathew

8/10

Gate Of Mind are a thrash metal band from France formed in 2016, releasing two E.P.’s to date – ‘Uprooted’ (2019) and ‘The Beast Inside’, released in 2022.

If you’re looking for a short burst of energetic thrash with very strong groove metal and hardcore leanings then you need look no further than French metallers Gate Of Mind, and their latest E.P. ‘The Beast Inside’ – a four song Earth shattering assault of pure aggression and ferocity!

First song up ‘Buried’, is quickly into its stride, hammering the senses with enough groove metal to lacerate the fibres of every human being alive! The change of pace soon after is incredible, the band racing on at high velocity to give the head bangers of the world something to really head bang to! What a barnstorming start – ‘Awakening’ moving the E.P. to a new plane. A plane where speedy groove thrash metal rules! Yet the ferocity and aggression pumping out of ‘Awakening’ is phenomenal. You certainly wouldn’t wanna anger Gate Of Mind – you just might find yourself on the wrong end of a brutally savage beating!

Moving on, the E.P. remains in ferocious mood, ‘Face It’ a more mid tempo offering than either of the two previous songs – yet for all its lack of pace, the root aggression of the band remains extremely high. These guys mean business – and they are mean! The battering my ears are taking is savage, and it’s not over yet! There’s still one more song to come – the jack hammer riffing of ‘Insane’ is just err, insane! With the faster pace restored, Gate Of Mind storm down the autoroute, exceeding speed limits and not giving a fuck for the devastation left behind.

Overall, a ferocious and aggression fuelled four song foray of fast paced groove thrash metal, all delivered with a brutally savage intent.
