“From Midland And Beyond”
E.P. Review by Iron Mathew

Hartlight are a symphonic metal band from Switzerland formed in 2019 by singer Noemie Allet and multi-instrumentalist Adrien Djouadou (Phoebus The Knight), releasing their debut E.P. ‘From Midland And Beyond’ in 2022.

The band hail from the country famous for chocolate, cheese and watches, performing a blend of symphonic power metal that’s as gorgeous as the aforementioned two delicacies, and as precise as those damn Swiss watches! The four songs on offer float by in under twenty highly infectious minutes…

…’The Merrow’s Chant’ a majestic opening swagger of classic sounding symphonic metal. Hitting heavily, the band punch hard, smacking the sweet spot with enough force to make you think you’ve just received a bolt of electricity through your entire body! ‘The Merrow’s Chant’ a shock that takes you by surprise – widening your smile really wide. And that’s where it stays as Hartlight increase the pace and race on with ‘Be Blessed’ – changing tempo and gears at will. The band delivering head bang-able symphonic power metal to please the worlds head bangers.

And at nearly six minutes in length, ‘The Eclipse’ is by far the longest song on offer, and is a majestic romp of heavy hitting fast paced metal with slower passages that remind me of yesteryear music halls and saloons, featuring sultry solo performances of blues – the singer standing in the spotlight with just a microphone for company, the rest of the band hidden in darkness. The fourth and final song on offer ‘Into The Realm Of The Elves’, is a fast and furious gallop of traditional heavy metal with symphonic elements woven in to produce a highly infectious and head bang-able ending.

Overall, a four song symphonic metal stomp featuring an exciting blend of power and traditional metal elements.
