Hollowstar Single Review: “Let You Down”

HOLLOWSTAR
“LET YOU DOWN”
Single Review by Piers Renfree

8/10

Formed in 2015, Hollowstar are a 4 piece heavy rock band from St. Ives in Cambridgeshire, UK who cite Black Stone Cherry, Thunder and Slash amongst their influences. The band, Joe Bonson – bass guitar and vocals, Jack Bonson – drums, Tom Collet – guitar and Phil Haines – guitar, released their debut 6 track E.P. “Some Things Matter” in 2017. They have toured with Stone Broken and Toseland and have recently been getting airtime on BBC Radio 2 and Planet Rock.

This single, “Let You Down”, is being released ahead of the band’s forthcoming tour with the legendary Dan Reed Network and Mason Hill. The song has a nice, catchy rock riff, a good sing-along chorus and we get a great guitar solo to boot. Joe Bonson’s vocals are clean, the production is unpolished, yet clean and everyone can be heard clearly.

On the strength of this, Hollow Star have a bright future and hopefully a full length album isn’t too far away. I look forward to hearing more from these guys.
