IMPELLITTERI Album Review: “The Nature Of The Beast”

IMPELLITTERI
“THE NATURE OF THE BEAST”
Album Review by Piers Renfree

6/10

Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1987, US metal band Impellitteri have so far released 10 studio albums, 3 E.P.s, 1 live album and 1 compilation album.

“Nature Of The Beast’ is the eleventh studio album from the band, who currently consist of lead guitarist Chris Impellitteri, original vocalist Rob Rock, James Pulli on the bass guitar, keyboard player Ed Roth, and drummer Jon Dette.

For the most part, the songs are fast paced, catchy and sound like they would go down a storm in the live arena. The production is crisp, Rob Rock can do, and does do, some screams in his singing, that Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford would be proud of and Chris Impellitteri plays some memorable, screaming solos in the songs.

Sadly, there are moments in this record, where Chris Impellitteri is not just playing the songs, but playing over them as well and this is no more painfully evident, than on the two cover songs on the album, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom Of The Opera” and Black Sabbath’s “Symptom Of The Universe”, where he can’t seem to contain himself and has all the excitement of a teenage boy in a brothel.

This detracted from the songs and ruined what, for me, was a fun record to listen to and sadly lost the band some review points.
