Implore Album Review: “Subjugate”

IMPLORE
“SUBJUGATE”
Album Review By Lloyd Parkinson

10/10

When the opportunity to review this album for MetalGods TV came up it really wasn’t something I could dismiss as a devoted Grindcore fan. Enter “Subjugate” by the Dutch spawned musical powerhouse “Implore”. There really isn’t any point sugarcoating this band. They are fucking awesome in everyway possible. I remember seeing these guys at Obscene Extreme back in 2014 and it was the best Grindcore set I’ve ever seen at a European festival. The band have been together since 2012 and are now showing no signs of slowing down their barbaric onslaught within the European Grindcore circuit.

The album kicks off with an absolute belter called Birth of an Era. This track really does conceptualize exactly what’s in store for the next 13 tracks. What I particularly love about this first track is that it features the myriad of different genres that Implore incorporate into their musical character. If you’re a Grindcore fan then you will want to pit to this track. If you’re a hardcore fan then you will want to two-step. This track opens with a profoundly aesthetical sound of guitar feedback, which a lot of people would argue is a typical and generic way of opening a Grindcore album. But, there couldn’t be a more perfect way for this album to explode into action.

Enter track two. Loathe is an ultimate example of what contemporary Grindcore is all about. Cataclysmic absurdity piled into a short space of seconds. I’m not saying this can be related to You Suffer by Napalm Death because no other track on this planet could give a listener such an altered state of Grindcore fueled consciousness. This second track represents the true craftsmanship and pure insanity that Implore can pile into one short track. Patterns to Follow is undeniably my favorite track from this album. It combines a variety of different genres including Grindcore, Hardcore, Punk and Black Metal.

The album concludes just the way you would expect it to. Gazing Beyond is a round up of every musical characteristic that implore have used on this album. Blast beats, two step style rhythms and a monstrous amount of power. There are not many bands that close an album with such a sheer amount of power but Implore really nailed it. There’s only one downside to the album closing this way and that is that its only leaves you wanting it to carry on.

In summary, if you call it as formal as that; this album is a perfect example what modern Grindcore is all about. It is a profoundly conceptulised piece of work that screams madness and chaos from start to finish. There have been a lot of Grindcore bands in the European scene this year but not many of them have managed to churn out an album with such power and aesthetical insanity. Implore have really defined their sound on this album and I cannot wait to hear what they unleash as their next offering.

Last words…

THIS IS GRIND TO THE CORE.
