“Firestar”
Album Review by Iron Mathew

10/10

Iron Savior are a heavy metal band from Germany formed in 1996 by Piet Sielck, releasing their self titled debut album in 1997. In a career spanning over twenty five years, Iron Savior have released thirteen studio albums and one live opus, 2015’s ‘Live At The Final Frontier’ – ‘Firestar’ is the bands thirteenth album and was released in 2023…

…featuring eleven songs over a fifty minute run time! Fifty minutes of pure power come heavy metal heaven, Iron Savior one of the best bands in the world at the moment – indeed for the last twenty five years! And for me, the band are part of a select breed of metal bands that just never let you down. A breed that includes such luminaries as Dio, Iron Maiden, Rage, Saxon and a whole lot more besdies – these bands never putting a foot wrong. And in the mighty shape of Iron Savior and their latest album ‘Firestar’, the band are in defiant mood, delivering fast paced and infectious heavy metal with the highest levels of passion and enthusiasm! Album opener ‘The Titan’, is a one minute instrumental full of tension, anticipation and err, folk metal leanings! I’m telling ya, Piet Sielck and crew aren’t afraid to expand and experiment with their sound – ‘Firestar’ exploding into life with the ferocious ‘Curse Of The Machinery’. And I mean ferocious – ‘Curse Of The Machinery’ is fast, very fast, punching hard and kicking harder as it gallops by in a flash. Yet despite the dizzying speed, Iron Savior’s massive melodious intent is as impressive as ever.

What a blistering opening salvo! In the realm of heavy metal, Iron Savior are top dogs, the best in the business, performing at the top of their game for over two decades – ‘Firestar’ cruising on with a new anthem for every metalhead everywhere, ‘In The Realm Of Heavy Metal’. And not content with making a metal anthem anthemic, the band keep their foot firmly pressed to the metal, accelerating down the autobahn at a hundred miles an hour. The infectious nature of ‘In The Realm Of Heavy Metal’ is fucking phenomenal, everyone everywhere rocking their heads back and forth, raising clenched fists high in the air to salute an incredibly catchy song. And with a heavier, much tougher sound, ‘Demise Of The Tyrant’ is the weightiest song heard so far – yet amazingly, the infectious melodic nature of the album remains wholly intact! Iron Savior really are a superb heavy metal band, and one of my all time favourites too. And with a phenomenal upsurge in energy and speed, the title song ‘Firestar’ rockets off at a blistering pace, the band at their most fast and furious here! The head bangers of the world are gonna love this one, wrecking their necks with a vigorous motion that may land many in hospital! Simply stunning stuff from the German metal masters.

And the “stunning stuff” is far from over – the album moving on at its most melodious with the NWOBHM tinged ‘Through The Fires Of Hell’, the band planting their collective feet firmly on the monitor. And as for sing a long ability! ‘Through The Fires Of Hell’ and indeed every song heard so far, has been totally sing a long-able – Iron Savior masters of melodic heavy metal with pace, power and immense head bang ability! Have the Germans just made a late surge for the Album Of The Year title? You bet your bottom fucking dollar they have! The album moving forward with a more hustle and bustle feel than heard so far, courtesy of ‘Mask, Cloak And Sword’. Yet the band don’t lift their foot off the accelerator, maintaining the fantastic pace the album began with. And with no sign of an upcoming breather from the albums relentless intensity, Iron Savior launch the mid tempo foot stomper ‘Across The Wastelands’ with a mighty bombastic barrage. Yet whether it’s a fast paced gallop, a mid tempo trot, or an anthemic stroll, Iron Savior weave a massive melodious intent into every song they write. It’s just fucking brilliance as far as I’m concerned, and no-one will ever change my mind!

And from a trot to a gallop, ‘Rising From The Ashes’ hurtles into view at incredible speed, the album blazing a fiery trail across the land, leaving only very satisfied listeners, fans and followers in its wake. I tell ya readers, what’s not to like about ‘Firestar’ (the album) – the only reasons I can think of, is that either you’re deaf or dead! Either way, Iron Savior’s entire back catalogue – and that of quite a few other bands too – is gonna accompany me into the afterlife. For I’m gonna spend eternity in heaven (or hell) rocking out to heavy fucking metal! The iconic gallop of the legendary NWOBHM takes front and centre as ‘Nothing Is Forever’ breaks free and runs riot – the chorus a highly anthemic and sing a long-able affair! Probably the best the album has to offer – but only just! ‘Cause every song on the album has been sing a long-able – ‘Firestar’ (the album) coming to a close with the fast paced ‘Together As One’. For fifty fantastic minutes Iron Savior has thrilled and excited, tingled and teased, the bands new album probably one of their finest! So if you wanna hear fast paced, infectious and highly melodic heavy metal, go get a copy of ‘Firestar’ (the album) – you won’t be disappointed.

Overall, a superb gallop of all out heavy metal from one of the worlds best ever bands – Iron Savior.
