LADY BEAST E.P. Review: “Omens”

LADY BEAST
“Omens”
E.P. Review by Iron Mathew

10/10

Lady Beast are a heavy metal band from the USA formed in 2009, releasing their self titled debut album in 2012, followed by three albums in five years –  ‘Lady Beast II’ (2015), ‘Vicious Breed’ (2017), and ‘The Vulture’s Amulet’ (2020). The band have also released two E.P.’s – ‘Metal Immortal’ (2016), and 2021’s ‘Omens’…

…which continues the traditional heavy metal onslaught that Lady Beast began over a decade ago. The American metallers, led by powerhouse vocalist Deborah Levine, have made a huge impact on the metal scene over recent years – with their new E.P. reinforcing the bands position as one of today’s most exciting bands. The five songs on offer span a blistering twenty minutes, the intensity smashing right through the roof! Opening with ‘Poisoned Path’, Lady Beast set both the tone and the pace for the E.P. – ‘Poisoned Path’ thundering forth with a huge “foot on the monitor” feel. If Lady Beast had emerged during the eighties heyday for heavy metal evolution, they would have been one of the genres greats…but what’s to say they still won’t be? The band have plenty of years in them yet…

…powering on with the energetic ‘The Reaper’. Full of NWOBHM and eighties nostalgia, ‘The Reaper’ is catchy, infectious, and carries on the traditional legacy that began with icons of metal Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Saxon, and Raven. If you’re an avid fan of classic sounding heavy metal, then the ‘Omens’ E.P. is a must have. With no let up in intensity, ‘Blood For Blood’ powers on energetically, picking up the pace and motoring on. With a heavier feel than the opening double, ‘Blood For Blood’ has a rabble rousing call to arms chant style chorus. And what an in concert moment that’ll be!

Blistering pace lights up the E.P. in the mighty shape of ‘Kill The King’. Incorporating elements of the speed metal genre, Lady Beast throw in a touch of thrash metal aggression too. The mosh pits of the world are gonna go crazy for this one, ‘Kill The King’ a rampant blast of all out heavy metal at its masterful best. Pace remains high for the final song ‘The Fools Journey’ – and it sounds like Lady Beast have saved the best for last. ‘The Fools Journey’ has everything – pace, power, melodious intent, and an infectious level that reaches heights higher than any height ever achieved. Lady Beast are a band at the top of their game, forging a reputation and a following that I’m positive will be as big as many of heavy metals greatest bands.

Overall, a five song gallop of traditional heavy metal, highly melodic and overly infectious, ‘Omens’ is world class.
