Merciless Law are a speed metal band from Chile releasing their debut album ‘Troops Of Steel’ in 2022.

Eight songs of fast paced and aggressive speed come power come thrash metal await anyone who presses play on Merciless Law’s debut album. The band storm through all eight songs on offer in a little over forty minutes – with a sound highly reminiscent of Kai Hansen fronted Helloween, and (another) German thrashy power metal outfit Scanner. Merciless Law are very quickly into their stride with the ferocious album opener ‘A New Order’ – travelling faster than a speeding bullet! The electrifying pace is breath taking, and is made more amazing by just how melodic ‘A New Order’ is – think Judas Priest in full flight and well, Merciless Law are faster! A sparkling opener is followed by an absolute corker – ‘Blinded’, a mid tempo mid paced heavy thunderstorm of anthemic intricacies. That is until a gear change across the chorus break sees ‘Blinded’ assume the blistering pace of the previous song, and draw a few comparisons to the likes of Helloween and Iron Maiden.

Merciless Law may be from South America, but have managed to craft a European power metal sound – none more so than the galloping ‘Wrath’. Rampaging and full of purpose, ‘Wrath’ has the highest melodious intent of the opening triple – and is as catchy as hell! Which goes for the rest of the album too. For Merciless Law do not lift their foot off the gas, keeping it firmly pressed to the floor, as the speedster ‘Victims Of War’ takes flight and rockets forth. Adopting a mid tempo stroll as the vocals kick in, ‘Victims Of War’ is a power come traditional metal romp, full of pace changes and an infectious level higher than is humanly possible. With the intensity as high as it was when the album began, the band storm on with the pummelling ‘The Street Fighter’. Harder hitting and more punchy than anything heard so far, ‘The Street Fighter’ is head bang-able to the max and one of the best songs on the album. Damn they’re all good, but ‘The Street Fighter’ stands out that little bit more than any other song on offer.

Returning a Judas Priest flavour to the album, ‘There’s No Superheroes’ is another power driven heavy metal gallop, the band blending traditional metal traits with the classic sound of European power metal. In fact, the guitar sound owes a lot to the NWOBHM evolution – with Merciless Law attracting fans of the old school variety, as well as fans that are classed as “new” school. Powering on, the band show no sign of slowing down, as ‘World Circus’ enters the realm of fast, furious, and aggressive heavy metal. The band have not stopped for a breather all album, with ‘World Circus’ increasing the rate of head banging by metal heads all around the world. The album is brought to a close with the title song ‘Troops Of Steel (Fight For Glory)’ – a seven and a half minute Iron Maiden-esque epic. There is atmosphere, a crescendo building intro, and electrifying pace. ‘Troops Of Steel (Fight For Glory)’ is a sparkling end to a sparkling album of pace and power.

Overall, a fast paced and highly infectious gallop of power driven heavy metal.
