“The Undying”
E.P. Review by Iron Mathew

8/10

Mur.Doc 104 are a thrash metal band from Malta formed in 2015, founded by guitarists Joseph Marmara and Stephen Azzopardi (left the band in 2019), releasing three singles and an E.P. to date – the four song ‘The Undying’, released in 2023.

The band – with a current line-up of Joseph (guitar), Shaun (guitar), Sean Attard (bass), Oliver Perez (drums), and Luke Debono (vocals) – are heavily influenced by the eighties Bay Area thrash movement, with the likes of Exodus, Death Angel and Forbidden the major influencers. The bands E.P. is eighteen minutes of full on thrash, with Megadeth and Overkill also influencing the bands sound.

Opening the E.P. is the title song ‘The Undying’ – a heavy thrash metal stomp that hits hard and kicks harder! The force of a thousand wrecking balls hits the listener as the band unleash a fiery fury of brash riffs so sharp they’re gonna slice straight through muscle and bone. A thunderous start, Mur.Doc 104 pick up the pace for (the self titled) ‘Mur.Doc 104’, yet keep the heaviness of the previous song very much intact – maybe even heavier! And over the E.P.’s first half. it’s clear to hear the influence of Exodus.

Thundering into the second half, Mur.Doc 104 break into a canter for the fastest song heard so far – ‘Ignorant Masses’ a pace changing tempo changing highly head bang-able slab of fierce thrash! The fourth and final song on offer ‘Thrashin’ The Boat’, is also the longest song on offer, clocking in at nearly six minutes in length! It’s also the most energetic and buoyant out of the four, featuring traditional metal’s glorious gallop and “foot on the monitor” feel.

Overall, a very heavy, very thrashy, four song assault of all out bone snapping thrash metal.
