Mythologik are a thrash metal band from the USA formed in 2023, releasing their self titled debut E.P. later the same year. The bands debut full length album ‘Blood In The Sky’ was released in 2024.

Founded by multi-instrumentalist Bryan Eckermann (Wings Of Abaddon, Scars Of The Flesh) and vocalist Joe Gregory, Mythologik are not a band to be confined to just the one genre of metal – thrash primarily, but also elements of death, black, traditional and progressive metal are to be found among the nine songs on offer! For forty eight intriguing, and engaging minutes, the band take listeners on a ramble across many different landscapes to deliver a very wide array of sonic scenarios. The attitude here is very much in your face and aggressive, Mythologik hitting hard right from the off…

…as (the albums) title song ‘Blood In The Sky’ menacingly crawls into sight! And then with an almighty thud, the band shatter the silence with fire and brimstone, the fury unleashed loaded to the hilt with aggression! ‘Blood In The Sky’ (the song) strides tall and proud from one end of the thrash metal genre to the other, offering the listener incredible variation across its entire five minute thirty second run time! ‘Lord Death’ maintains the aggression from the album opener albeit at a faster pace, especially across the songs opening thirty seconds or so! Then the influence of bands such as Nuclear Assault and Megadeth come to the fore, Mythologik oozing anger and angst in abundance – and along with the constant gear, tempo and pace changes, the band also show the progressive side to their music. ‘Scorched Earth’ takes off at a hundred miles an hour, shuddering the ground with immense force and banging the head of every single metalhead around the world. The head bang ability since the album began has been top notch, as has the intensity and aggression!

And with no sign of either fading away, ‘Blood In The Sky’ (the album) strolls on with the longest song on offer, ‘Fallen Empire’ clocking in at eight and a half minutes in length. Featuring a mellow, almost haunting intro across the first minute, Mythologik increase heaviness to adopt a touch of doom metal, a melancholic atmosphere descending upon the album. The reined in aggression and menace is palpable, the band doing a great job of holding it all in, letting it all flow freely as ‘Satanael’ marches into sight with a phenomenal amount of thunder! The band meld traditional heavy metal with their thrash roots, adding a touch of the anthemic too – I tell ya readers, the variation of metal styles on offer is wider than the Grand Canyon, the American metal duo offering something for every metal fan. The band maintain their wander around different metal genres with the meandering ‘Disease Of The Soul’. Returning a little doom metal to the fore, the level of menace reaches new heights, Mythologik slowly and steadily stomping their way across the land.

All album long I’ve had my fingers crossed that the band would deliver a blistering fast paced head banger, and in the shape of the sub four minute ‘Dark Waters’ – the shortest song on offer – I had high hopes that this might be it! But nope – mid tempo stomping remains at the forefront of ‘Blood In The Sky’ (the album) with occasional short, sharp bursts of energetic pace mingled among the more sedate swagger of the album. Not that it’s a bad don’t get me wrong, I just want an all out thrasher to head bang to – the wait getting longer as ‘Purgatorium’ lurches forth with err, erm, more melodious intent than heard anywhere else on the album! Yes the bands menacing mid tempo thunder stomp is still evident, I just think ‘Purgatorium’ will appeal to traditional metal fans more than any other song on offer! Bringing the album to a close, ‘Epilogue’ sees – or rather hears – the intensity rise off the fucking charts! And my wait for blistering speed is finally brought to an end! Mythologik throw fuel on the fire at fifty seconds, letting rip with a thirty second burst of incredible speed – ‘Epilogue’ banging my head hard and fast. Boy I’ve waited for that moment for so long – and there’s a second burst later on too!

Overall, forty eight menace loaded minutes of mid tempo thrash metal with tonnes of thunder and foot stomping.
