ONSLAUGHT
“RELIGIOUSUICIDE”
Single Review by Iron Mathew

10/10

Onslaught are a thrash metal band from the UK formed in 1982 by guitarist Nige Rockett. The band released their debut album ‘Power From Hell’ in 1985 and the follow up ‘The Force’ in 1986. The band have endured numerous line-up changes over the years, and even disbanded for over a decade! Onslaught are as much a part of British heavy metal history as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. In a career spanning nearly forty years, Onslaught have released six studio albums, one compilation, two live albums and two live performance DVD’s.

Now recognised as both veterans and legends, Onslaught are set to shake the thrash metal scene to its foundations with their seventh studio album ‘Generation Antichrist’ – scheduled for release on August 7th. Preceding the album, the band have released a new single…

…’Religiousuicide’, featuring new singer Dave Garnett (vocalist/guitarist for British metallers Bull-Riff Stampede), alongside founding member (and Onslaught’s only constant), guitarist Nige Rockett. The band is completed by James Perry (drums), Jeff Williams (bass) and Wayne Dorman (guitar).

‘Religiousuicide’ can be summed up in three words – “intense”, “fast”, and “aggressive”. It is delivered at a phenomenal pace, with snarling and highly menacing vocals. As a teaser for the new album, it whets the appetite in floods, hitting the sweet spot harder than its ever been hit before. I am drooling in anticipation of ‘Generation Antichrist’ – August 7th can’t come quick enough…

Overall, a fast and highly aggressive appetiser for the bands new album, Onslaught deliver a crushing and brutal slice of intense thrash metal.
