POUNDER
“FASTER THAN FIRE”
E.P. Review by Iron Mathew
8/10
Pounder are a heavy metal band from the USA formed in 2016, releasing their ‘Heavy Metal Disaster’ demo the following year. The three song E.P. ‘Faster Than Fire’ is the bands first official release and is an appetiser for their first full length album ‘Uncivilized’, due late in 2018.
Old school and traditional is my favourite style of heavy metal, which is exactly what Pounder have served up across fifteen blistering minutes. The band may be from America, yet their influence is definitely a very heavy British one. The iconic NWOBHM sound is buzzing throughout the three songs on offer here, with head banging an absolute must, right from minute one to minute fifteen.
‘Last Stand’ can stand tall against anything that was released during the eighties heyday for the NWOBHM evolution. A catchy sing a long and anthemic style call to arms chorus is sublime, and ‘Last Stand’ has to be a certainty to be played live. The crowd will go absolutely nuts over this one. I can just see it now, a sea of moshing metal heads, their heads nodding furiously with fists punching the air in delight. ‘Come Alive’ injects a little of the melodic heavy metal genre into the E.P. yet remains a pulsating and infectious slice of heavy metal. With a new album coming later this year, I for one cannot wait after (repeatedly) listening to this E.P.
Overall, blistering heavy metal played at high speed with catchiness oozing from everywhere, these three songs offer a splendid appetiser for the bands upcoming album.
