PRIMAL FEAR E.P. Review: “I Will Be Gone”

PRIMAL FEAR
“I Will Be Gone”
E.P. Review by Piers Renfree

7/10

The last time I was fortunate enough to review legendary German power metal band, Primal Fear, was in 2018 for their “Apocalypse” album. That album got a very well deserved 9/10 and I still play it to this day.

Formed in the 1990’s by ex-Gamma Ray vocalist Ralf Scheepers and Mat Sinner of the band Sinner, Primal Fear have released a total of fourteen albums to date.

For the lead single and title track “I Will Be Gone”, the band have teamed up with ex-Nightwish warbler Tarja Turunen. This is a beautiful, acoustic song with some classical guitar in there.

The second song “Vote Of No Confidence” is a fast paced song but the verses and chorus come across like an average American rock/metal song.

“Rising Fear” is the third song – vvery big and dramatic and sadly over too soon.

Fourth song “Leave Me Alone” is a rip roaring number, which seems inspired by thrash metal music. There is a great solo, but sadly the song is let down by the lyrics which sound like angry teenagers with a limited vocabulary.

The fifth and final song “Second To None” has the feeling of a mid-80’s metal anthem and it feels like it will be a favourite in the live arena and rock clubs.

Overall this is a good release from Primal Fear, but the lyrics from “Leave Me Alone”, detract from what could have been great.
