Having formed in 2013 in Athens, this band has seen a few line-up changes and instability, but have managed to put out two EP’s in their fledgling career. Now, with settled members, Rapture are treading on new ground, unveiling their debut full length to the world. Taking an all new direction following their second promo EP in the guise of Death Thrash metal. Released via record label Witches Brew, this band seem to have concocted something rather tasty.

“Crimes Against Humanity”, consisting of 8 original death thrash tracks and one cover of Born Dead (Death) is a 9 track album that is a great example of how two genres can blend together seamlessly. There are a few parts throughout the album however, that could be ‘tightened’ up a little in my opinion, for example some of the guitar solos have an inexperienced feel to them and could have possibly been left out, but, this doesn’t detract from the tracks in anyway.

With every track you can definitely hear what they have been trying to achieve with their new hybrid sound. The vocals range from classic thrash through to low rumbling growls, but, this too could do with a little polish. The soundtrack is consistently speedy, the instruments clearly detectable which makes it clear what elements they have brought into the songs.

The furious drumming all the way through is definite thrash, but when the double kicks pummel in, the songs take that darker turn into the extreme. Little Bass solo’s a plenty too, which is great to hear as utilising every instrument in a band doesn’t seem to be done so much with new up-comers, for me personally it just makes a band that more interesting.

It’s quite clear that with this debut, Rapture have tried to get all of their ideas onto one release, it sort of works, but can get a little busy in places. However, all the negatives aside, this is a solid effort for a first full length, the recording has showcased the sound brilliantly, and you can definitely feel the heart in this album that the band have poured into it.

Great ‘I want to destroy the room’ guitar riffs, epic feet stamping drums, bass riffs that make you want to pull ‘that’ face, and vocals that take you on a journey through several genres.
