SHOTGUN MISTRESS
“Kings Of The Revolution”

Shotgun Mistress are a hard rock band from Australia formed in 2018 by guitarist Matt Wilcock. Leaving his death metal leanings well and truly behind, Wilcock is firmly ensconced in hard rock territory these days with Shotgun Mistress, releasing the bands debut album ‘Shotgun Mistress’ in 2021, and sophomore album ‘Kings Of The Revolution’ in 2024.

The band have steadily but quickly, garnered a reputation for high octane, heavy hitting hard rock, touring Australia to deliver energetic and explosive live performances – Shotgun Mistress embarking on a tour of Japan in the summer! The bands new album ‘Kings Of The Revolution’ features eleven hard rockers across an even harder rocking forty four minutes, the title song ‘Kings Of The Revolution’ thundering into sight from the heavier end of the hard rock genre! Picking up pace across the chorus break, ‘Kings Of The Revolution’ (the song) is an energetic, gear changing rampage to get pulses racing and hearts pounding – kinda what the Australian outfit have been doing since their formation! And hitting harder with tonnes more oomph, ‘Sweet Woman’ is a mighty foot stomper with one helluva sing a long styled chorus! A head nodder too, for the band are at their best here, hooking listeners attentions with an infectious opening brace.

And with the infectious level remaining extremely high, the album struts on with the Aerosmith sounding ‘Shot Down’ – the band oozing an immense Southern rock swagger, ‘Kings Of The Revolution’ (the album) roaming all over the hard rock genre to deliver variation in abundance! And we’re only three songs in – just imagine the variety still to come! Well imagine no more, ‘Jude Judas’ entering the fray with enough force to knock every listener into next fucking week! The pulsating rhythms and throbbing melodies Shotgun Mistress have sewn into every song so far is absolutely phenomenal, the band serving up a raucous treat for every single rocker in the world – a few metalheads too! For the band are hitting so hard the border wall between the genres of rock and metal might just fall! ‘From Hell’ is beefier than everything heard so far, Shotgun Mistress pounding the ground hard, shaking buildings to their foundations. A truly heavy rocking first half to the album, let’s see where the Australian four-piece take us in the second half…

…to a special guest singer that’s where! ‘Mary Jane’ features Rusty Brown (vocalist for the Australian rock band Electric Mary), and is the most blues rock song heard so far! Shotgun Mistress meld blues with Southern rock and their own hard rocking roots to deliver an immense, almost party like atmosphere – very wide smiles appearing on the faces of every listener, fan and follower around the world. The incredible swagger of the album is sublime, ‘Kings Of The Revolution’ (the album) striding tall and proud right through the heart of the hard rock genre, venturing into every corner, nook and cranny to deliver a varied and infectious listen! And talking of varied, ‘Headspace’ hits hard with a mild brutality you’d normally find in great British rock, Shotgun Mistress travelling half way round the world to bring yet another influence to the fore. And upping both the pace and power, ‘Addicted To Pain’ roars off at top speed, the band fairly ferocious here as one foot is firmly planted on the old school heavy metal monitor, ‘Addicted To Pain’ proudly parading the iconic metal gallop! And if at this stage, there’s still some metalheads not interested in the band from down under – they will be now!

And with a mellowness not heard before, the band introduce ‘Welcome To The Fight’ in the same spectacular way the German rock band Scorpions introduced ‘Winds Of Change’ – with whistling! Power balladry has definitely arrived here, ‘Welcome To The Fight’ ambling on with every listener everywhere holding lighters aloft and swaying from side to side. And from balladry right to the other end of the rock genre, Shotgun Mistress hit harder than ever with the heavy rocking party anthem ‘It’s Alright’ – every listener jumping up and down with pure excitement! The energy level is off the fucking charts here, ‘It’s Alright’ showing an incredible amount of oomph – ‘Kings Of The Revolution’ (the album) coming to a close with the rip roaring ‘Down’. The exhilarating pace of earlier makes an emphatic return, as does the foot on the monitor heavy metal gallop, the band delivering a highly head bang-able finale to their second album.

Overall, a heavy hitting hard rocking album with immense amounts of energy and oomph, ‘Kings Of The Revolution’ is incredibly infectious.
