STORM Single Review: “Here I Am”

“Here I Am”
Single Review by Iron Mathew

8/10

Storm are a rock/metal band from Bulgaria formed in 2019, consisting of Alexander Mladenov (drums, vocals), Mihail Bonev (bass, vocals), and Nikolay Mihaylov (guitars). The band began performing in their home town of Sofia, moving on to other towns in Bulgaria, building up quite the local following.

The band have released two singles – ‘Angel’ (2019) and ‘Sulza’ (2020) – with ‘Here I Am’ the bands third, released in 2021. Storm continue to evolve as a band, displaying a heavier, more metal sound than heard on either of their two previous singles…

…although, as the new single opens, it does (appear) to follow the bands soundscape to date – that is, until it reaches the one minute mark, suddenly exploding in a fiery ball of rage, moving swiftly on at a traditional “foot on the monitor” gallop.

Fans of bands such as Angra, Blind Guardian, Helloween, and the mighty Iron Maiden will find ‘Here I Am’ most attractive. The band are currently working on more new songs for their first full length album, for a yet to be confirmed release date.

Overall, a melodic foot on the monitor gallop, ‘Here I Am’ captures the aura of the classic sound of traditional heavy metal.
