Trial (Swe) are a heavy metal band from Sweden formed in 2007 releasing four albums to date – ‘The Primordial Temple’ (2011), ‘Vessel’ (2015), ‘Motherless’ (2017), and ‘Feed The Fire’, released in 2022…

…featuring a new singer, and a new tag to the bands name – (Swe). The band added the country tag “Swe” to their name, so as not to be confused with the many other metal bands that share the name “Trial”. So I will endeavour to always refer to them as Trial (Swe)…but please let me know if I slip up. Thank you. ‘Feed The Fire’ is an album of fast paced and highly infectious heavy metal, very much in the “foot on the monitor” vein. The album opens with the one minute anticipation fuelled ‘Tria Prima’, leading straight into the ferocious pace (of album opener proper) ‘Sulphery’ – a thundering old school flavoured metaller. The pace and power of ‘Sulphery’ is incredible, harking back to heavy metals’ formative years and the classic “gallop” as created by legendary British metallers Iron Maiden. What a start to your new album!

A start that gains further momentum with the red hot scorcher ‘Thrice Great Path’. Picking up the pace and tempo, ‘Thrice Great Path’ hurtles along at traditional power metal pace, yet with more fire and brimstone. Trial (Swe) have certainly exploded into life across the (albums) opening double, immediately making heads turn! And still making heads turn, ‘In The Highest’ actually slows the pace to a mid tempo Judas Priest style power driven stomper. The infectious level Trial (Swe) have began the album with is off the fucking charts, keeping every single listener hooked, and even making them turn the volume up a few notches! ‘Snare Of The Fowler’ takes on the epic style of metal, creating an atmosphere of the cinematic story telling. And then without warning takes off like a rocket blasting off for space! Or a jet fighter off to war! The pace is incredible – the fastest heard so far. Trial (Swe) definitely pushing hard on the pedal, keeping listeners in head bang-able mode. Title song ‘Feed The Fire’ is all hustle and bustle, foraging fiercely as it flies across the land – adopting a very heavy foot stomp. The mix of fast and mid tempo will keep you guessing in which direction ‘Feed The Fire’ (the song) will move next, the band maintaining pace and power at every opportunity.

Reducing the pace to an almost doom metal feel – the feel of Black Sabbath or Dio – Trial (Swe) give birth to a menace not heard so far with the heavy thump of ‘The Faustus Hood’. And for the first time the blistering speed of the album to this moment, is placed on the shelf. The heavy thud of ‘Faustus Hood’ a breather from the breathless pace the band have delivered so far – ‘Quadrivium’ increasing the heaviness and thunder, but still reining in the pace. Trial (Swe) not just an all out balls out kind of band when it comes to pace and power – showing their prowess at delivering different styles of heavy metal. Definitely a good thing. The album comes to an end with the nine minutes plus Iron Maiden style epic ‘The Crystal Sea’ – all majestic and elegant as the infectious intro drags you in with its immense air of anticipation. The band maintain the mid tempo pace but increase the intensity – ‘The Crystal Sea’ giving off a kind of hymn-like vibe blended with the anthemic style of metal. A truly great finish to a solid album of traditional heavy metal combining pace, power and differing tempo levels.

Overall, a fast paced and head bang-able traditional heavy metal album packed to the rafters with high intensity and an immense infectious level.
